Drz's go clickity click. A manual cam chain adjuster is highly recommended. You can also turn a manual adjuster in and out to identify cam chain noise.

I don't know about the VIN
The O ring will let some unfiltered oil pass but not a loss of pressure. Not a problem if the bike was well maintained. Like I said, DRZs click like an air cooled, some of which is piston slap. Items that go BOOM $$$ and should be addressed ( hey, it's your money!)
Cam chain adjuster failure ( replace with manual adjuster)
Primary nut backs off (red locktite and retorque)
Countershaft seal failure causes rapid loss of oil (keep clean)
Stock valves can break with big aftermarket cams.

A pretty short list for a modern 4 stroke
Keep the oil changed and it's very sturdy.
