what are the requirements for entrants? d-14/ama membership? what else? is the entry fee per person or per pair.

I've never done any type of competition and my 11yr old and I had talked about doing one of these.

Wolf - Entry fee is per rider. FES does not have any membership requirements. The adult events require AMA membership (can sign up for AMA at the event).

The FES is the perfect way for adult or youth to gain some knowledge of the basics of timed competition. The trail will be challenging enough for most youth riders and for some adults. The Kalkaska event will consist of two loops. The morning loop will be based on a 12mph speed average and the afternoon loop on a 18mph average. The morning speed average will be enough to keep the little people on their toes and the 18mph afternoon average will be plenty for most teenagers and adults. This series is the best way for the youngsters to experience the camaraderie of group riding with their peers in a good family oriented environment. By all means come if you can, it's always a great time! Hope you and your son can make this event Wolf Child. I think you and your son would enjoy it. :ride:

well, the pine cone coinsides with another ride I was doing (also in kalkaska as chance would have it), So I have to decide if I want to bail on my buds for one of the days to ride with my boy or not. We'll see. I need to think about this. :think:

If you can't make the spring pine cone the summer pine cone happens the weekend of July 14-15 in conjunction with the Jackpine. The summer pine cone will be July 14. You could make it a double whammy the weekend of Jackpine. You could ride the pine cone with your son and maybe talk some of your riding pals into coming to ride the Jackpine with ya. Not trying to be a salesman, but exposing a kid to enduro racing is usually a pretty constructive eye opening experience. Just might keep him/her away from some of the less constructive "hobbies" in life as they get a little older. Hope you and your boy can make one of the events. Take care....

Is camping allowed the night before/After? If we can bring the camper over, I am sure we will show up for the tree planting.

If you want to camp at the staging area - state land, please stop by a DNR office and pick up a free camping permit. The event permit does not allow camping.
Due to unpredictable weather (ain't that right Don), many people are camping at the local campgrounds in Kalkaska - power and showers.

FWIW- The Mini Moose in Marquette is also an excellent event! I'm going to try and schedule some trail riding in da U.P. with my 13 y.o. this year as well. We'll make room for you and your boy if you want to come along.

Thanks - we keep a supply of the camp permits in the trailer! And we will have power and showers regardless (are we all going soft in our old age? ;^) We could bunk with Don and kick him off his sleep comfort bed I guess?)

Dave, I would like to ride but I'll do what's needed as far as work. I'm hoping mom and pop have a check crew, if they don't I'll more than likely be doing the back up sheet for them. If they get an early check I will probably work it and then maybe ride in with the sweep crew. I would really like for Ethan to ride the pine cone but he needs a bit more practice to gain a little confidence. I would like to do the tree planting on Sunday and possibly take Ethan & Maddy along. Also, does your wife have a group together for the adopt-a-highway? My folks and at least my sister and I are gonna do the clean up on M-55 near seven mile I think. Gotta do some work since I'm at work. Ha-Ha.... :aj:

I'll be there, with the whole family riding, My girls first enduro by herself. wife riding "clean-up", son on the tank riding buddy....hope he doesn't get mad at big sisters as I am sure we will be waiting for her. His day will come though!
