Went for a trail ride yesterday and look what I found after our ride. It wasn't sticking out of the tire at all but I could see what looked like a piece of wood in the tire. I pulled the tire today and found this sticking straight into the tube with most of it being inside of the tire. It was stuck hard in the tire and was sticking straight out. It had gone through the outer layer of the tube and I could see the fibers which I assume are in the middle of the rubber in the tube. The tube was still holding air no problem. I stuck a patch on the tube just for a little extra insurance over the hole, pulled the stick, and threw it back together. These are IRC heavy duty tubes btw. I would've finished out the ride on a flat yesterday for sure!
