We've always had 'em. Heck, one of my biggest heroes was one of the biggest villains back in his day (Hannah). Johnson was a "Bad Boy". Then there was Bradshaw, Matasievich, even Bayle and Stanton to an extent.

I wonder if maybe RC should just roll with it and be the Villain, the guy everyone loves to hate? Look at Jeff Gordon. He's doing well, and not many "true" NASCAR fans think much of him.

He's too small and has too many freckles to make a good villain. He kind of looks like the Big Boy statue come to life.

IMO, there is WAY too much emphasis on who is naughty and who is nice. Just sit back and enjoy the action after the card goes sideways, and stop worrying about who signs the most autographs.

I say let the marketing staff do the schmoozing and let the racers do the racing! The best racing is when the racers are 100% FOCUSED on racing, so we should quit demanding the riders be PR pros and let them do what they are good at.

Seriously, I don't understand the need to make them into villains. They all have super-human riding ability. As far as the personality issues, I don't bother making a judgement either way based on superficial contact and/or marketing hype.

I'm with you man.

Maybe we should start hating riders because of their hair style, the car they drive or their bimbo girlfriend. The day SX turns into NASCAR will be the day I stop watching it.

Hey, we have speedway, flat track, oval racing

Rocket Rex Staten, now there was another bad boy, I used to Marshall MX races in South Africa and he came over for a season or two, whipped up badly on the local boys, man that guy was aggressive, could hear him screaming and cursing at the back markers to get outta the way, 'twas quite an experience - one day he took a jump wide while overtaking for the lead, the rear wheel flicked out and hit my buddy marshalling on the hip, ripping his short pants off - he was lucky to escape unhurt, but it was pretty funny nonetheless. (I think Rocket Rex saw my buddies baby blue hot pants (it was the 80's), decided it was too much of a distraction, and decided to get rid of them :scream: )

Yeah, the 'bad' boys sure make racing fun :)
