:) I would like to know what everone is running up front and out back on sprockets?

what type riding do you do aswell?

mods?

do you think a 12/47 is the same as a 13/50 I think its about the same

I did a search and seen a few users sprocket setups but would like to ask the current users and to get this info is a sprocket thread

I'm running a 12/50 combo with a Rev pipe and FMF sparky.
They are made by Primary Drive and came from Rocky Mountain.
It came that way so when I replaced the sprockets/chain I kept the same setup.
My main riding area is is lots of woods and hills but not very tight as it's been worn out by Quads. :|

yeah, 12/47 and 13/50 should be about the same. Figure 1 tooth on the front sprocket is equivalent to about 3-4 on the rear.

I'm running 12/49 right now, but when it comes time to replace sprockets I think I'll roll 13/50. I'm of the mind that the front sprocket and chain will last longer that way.

I've been debating going to a 13/52 next time (which is now) seems that third would be perfect on the step hills then..with my lugging style currenty third just craps out 1/4 way and second spins alot!!

I don't worry about finding the top of 6th gear cause I don't like moving that fast on a light bike!! save the speed for the magna (95mph just barely into third gear)

50 seems a pretty tight fit against the chain guide. If a 52 fits, I bet it wears the crap outta the lower guide block. Perhaps an RB modded carb is in order?? :)

12/47 = 0.2553
13/50 = 0.2600

So the 13/50 is just a tiny bit of a taller gear. A 13/51 would be closer to a 12/47 though (0.2549).

I don't know off the top of my head what I have. I will check when I get home.

Tight Woods 13/49 . Fredette chain guide. I have heard a smaller drive sprocket is harder on the chain . I don't know how you would prove or disprove that , but it is what many on this site have said. Dave

I ran 13/49 when I had my 220. Let me use 3rd more, and didn't sacrifice too much top end (of course, after engine mods it'd still pull that gearing past 80 mph, plenty o-speed!).

If having a larger front sprocket is easier on the chain then why not run a 14 tooth????

14/51 = 2745
13/47 = 2765

Anyone doing it????

I am running a 12/49 combo. The rear and the chain are 15 years old. The sprocket is a renthal alum. and the chain is a D.I.D. o-ring. The chain has lasted this long, and thekdx has had a 12 on the front since the chain and rear were replaced. So I am not sure how much if any the 12 tooth affects the wear of the chain. I ride four wheeler and jeep trails. Some single track stuff. Alot of steep hills and muddy areas.

14 tooth will leave very little clearance and make your gearing taller. I'm really liking my 13/50 for the tight technical woods riding with steep hill climbs. You'll need a 110 link chain and your stock chain guide works fine, mine wore in the first ride with plenty of material left.

14/47

Had to check but my 04 220 came stock with the 13/47, the bike has tons of bottom end, but is wound tight going down the road at 59 mph. I wanted closer to 80, not that I'm going to ride that fast, but I want to run down gravel road and the like, without winding it out. I mounted a 14 CS sprocket, seems to widen out the gearbox, so that I'm not shifting up-up-up. Granted she might be a bit tall in very tight situations, but once you get it rolling it's fine, still can pop the front end in 4th. I may not be able to pull the gearing down a real sandy 2track, but then I can always go to 5th, it will pull it down the road just fine.

One more thing to think about- This is a post I did a while back .... On my '92 "E" model I will be running 13-49 sprockets. This gives me a choice of chain lengths. I can run a 110 or a 112 link chain. The 110 would put my wheel all the way forward,at about the 1/2 mark on my snails. The 112 would move it back to about the 5-1/2 mark on my adjusters. My question is,will the wheelbase difference really make any noticeable difference in handling? How so?I will be running an RK X-ring, so there will be very little, if any stretch.Pros?Cons?
Thanx,Dave

14/47 on an 04 220. I've just dual sported the thing although don't plan on doing a lot of road. The 13/47 combo gave me just 59 mph top end according to my Trail Tech computer. I wanted closer to 80. 1st may be a little high for some very tight technical sections, but beyond that I like the gear spacing, it still has power to pull the front end in 4th gear as well. It suits my riding better, I spent a lot of time in 5th and 6th gears and I really prefer this gearing.

I have raced with 13/47(stock) since bike was new in 2001. Tried a 12 in the front once. Couldn't get used to it. Thinking of trying 13/50 next chain swap. We race mostly woods. Would like to get rid of 1st to 2nd shifting. Seem to miss shifts and hit neutral at the worst times.
I think 12 in the front is to tight of a turn for the chain.
