I've got an 01 drz e, that i use for trail riding. North east twisty mud and rocks type stuff. So far i've got a baja designs skid plate w/ the clutch and ignition cover guards, and Moose bark busters. I also ordered a scotts shark fin. As far as i know this leaves the radiator and the front disc unprotected. i don't think i have any choice with the skid plate and shark fin but what about the radiator and the front disc. Whats the purpose of the plactic front disc gaurd. is it just to keep mud away from the disc? or does it protect from rock damage too? how carried away should i get with Rad protection?? I've seen stuff for fin protection and other stuff that looks like it protects the outside edges. I'm not streesing over the weight but by the time i get done i'm gonna have 40 lbs. of aluminum hanging from my bike!! Do you think i have enough or should a go the whole 9 yards??

From what I've heard, the plastic front disc guards are purley cosmetic. Although Devol does make an aluminum front disc guard that looks like it will protect a lot. As for rad guards, Devol and a number of other manufactures make rad guards and/or supports. IMO, the supports would protect more in side impacts but they will not do anything for front protection.

Price a replacement radiator from your dealer. This should help you make your decision on the guards and braces. I bought rad braces a week before DW01 and after my crash, the radiator was tweaked but survived. I don't think the radiator would have made it without the braces. BTW, KX 250 radiators are $400 and braces were $50.
