ehh,, thats not exactly how things were written in thw article,

,nor how they went down in things not written in the artlcle

i was there afterall ;)

not to fan Preds flame threads any LOL

but somewhat ironically the CRF blew up roughly half way thru the first day of testing.
the bored out CRF450 grenaded.

i feel like Jack Nicholsen in "A Few Good Men"

the truth? you folks cant handle the truth!

truth: as tested , it cost basically the same,
was a lot heavier bike, made a bit less hp, and dint live for a full day.

as far as having a torque and broader smoother powerband advantage..

i can detune a CR500 a bit, it will have more torque and be smoother..
make thge same hp as a 450 and weigh less.

if you think the OEMs and thier huge R&D budgets,
couldnt do far more than i can,,
with high tech materials like they use in the 4 stroke R&D,,
digital CDI mapping , playing with crank inertial and other variables
then you need to really think about it.

it isnt hard to detune ,or rearrange ignition timing ,crankweights, etc on a 2 stroke to perform extreemly similar to a *tractable* 4 stroke.
(guys forget the torque monster 2 stroke trials bikes?)

and the 2 stroke bike would ALWAYS be lighter,, if given the same R$D and space age materials. basic physics at play (often called "truth")

care to give the two strokes a double displacement advantage and see where this leads?
much less give the simply *equal* footing?

I love both, its all fun,,

but lets not bury our heads in the sand at what is a marketung move by the OEMs, and an understanable one..
it may have a lot of spins ,, and some of them have a ring of being
fdor enviromental reasons etc..
every good lie has some truth in it. ;)
there can be many reasons,, and valid ones..
but the underlying main reason to market 4 strokes and R&D that direction,
it makes the OEM's more money..as all the 4 stroke R&D often crosses over to other things they make..(2 stroke R&D does not often)
its many other benifits to them are the ones most important to any business, thier ultimate bottom line.understandable.

nothing more, nothing less

carry on. LOL!

I guess that's why the AMA didn't allow the CRF150R in the mini class against the 85cc machines . . .

They got tired of all the whining too.

No, the CRF couldn't have blown up. It just needed it's valves adjusted. Didn't cost more than $150 to fix it either. Yeah, that's the ticket..... the valves needed adjusted.

This topic has caused near as much "buzz" as the KTM or Boob Job Poll! Impressive number of views and replies in just two short days of thread life.

Well Done :rotfl: :worship:

Some people are so HUGE they need a big bore 4 stroke to pull them around!

I'm referring to pred, and I'm also joking.

All talk, why not have a site ride and have the two strokes vs four strokes. We'll see who wins. Their have braging rights. Of course two strokes would win though and it wouldn't cost them 5grand to win either. :ride: :nener:

I own both, a 2000 Yamaha WR400, and a 2006 KTM 300 XCW. I rode the WR since new and I was happy with it riding open trails, but I think it made me a lazy rider.
About a year and a half ago I was introduced to single track, at that point I realized it was much to heavy for that type of riding, all that weight going one direction and your trying to turn in the other direction, just wore me out.
I bought the KTM took a while to get used to no engine braking, and I hadn't rode a 2 stroke for 6 years, but the weight difference and ability to change direction was felt immediately. I am a much faster rider now, and my endurance has really improved.
I did keep the WR, I put heated grips on it, and made it my winter bike, I'll admit it tractors through the deep snow much better than the KTM.

Id say there, how about a 2 stroke VS 4 stroke race to resolve what is better in their class 125 vs 125f / 250 VS 250f and so on...win or loose I still say the 4 stroke engine belongs in a car/ truck / mower..not a dirt bike..

[Rich]If win or lose you feel the same way, then it's stupid to suggest they race to settle it?

4-strokes deliver the power more easily but they need more cc's to equal it, what's so #*@! hard about this?

[/rich] :)
