So . . . . the wife has decided that after 18 years of looking at paneling; she is going to paint the living room.

She has been watching the Discovery channel, and picked the colors. The "Focal" (she learned this on the aforementioned Discovery Channel) wall is red. The other three walls are almost indescribable. Not orange. Not really yellow. She calls it "sunset". I call it %*^#&<

Friday she finishes painting the "sunset" and, as she is through with the roller, tosses it out in the yard for disposal later.

The dog gets hold of it.

I now have a yellow dog.

The dog drags it up and down the concrete patio. I now have a yellow patio.

The dog leaves it in the gravel driveway. Unsuspecting; I drive over it and now have a yellow truck.

Actually the yellow on the truck contrasts nicely with the "Country Blue" with which we painted the exterior of the house. As we couldn't quite reach the peak of the gables; we placed the ladder in the bed of the truck. With predictable results, I now have "Country Blue" highlights on my truck.

But I digress!

Sunday we go to Lowe's to get the flooring. I back up to the loading dock to receive the flooring, and happen to park on one of the yellow lines in the parking lot. As the yellow part of the tire is sitting square on the yellow stripe, I realize that it is a perfect match!

I know what color my living room is! It is "Highway Stripe Yellow"!!! :clue:

The "Trading Spaces" and "While you were Gone" shows need to be driven to the flaming pits of Hell. I have no flippin' idea what color my living room is, but the first iteration was what I termed "Too Many Alabama Slammers Puke" :|

I got you beat. In 2000, we moved to Fresno, bought a brand-new house. It was perfect, except for the interior paint. Turns out "white" isn't "warm". So we paint the living room with very high, vaulted ceilings, a lovely "off-white". Now it's warm. But you know, the kitchen didn't feel warm enough, so she painted it Pea-soup green. That lasted a few weeks until she changed her mind and painted it dark red. And the den, well that was now not warm enough, so she painted it a sort of light brown. And my son's bedroom? Sky blue. With a dark blue border at the top. Our bedroom was next, and it got a sort of gold treatment. And handmade curtains, which nicely complemented the new bedspread & accent pillows, which were purchased after moving the original bedroom accent pillows to the living room, because they matched the handmade curtains out there better. The handmade curtains replaced a previous set of handmade curtains which didn't match the new couch & loveseat. The couch & loveseat that was replaced was only a few years old, but apparently waaay out of style. I don't remember what color the guest bath was painted, but I remember the crown moulding wasn't fun. Don't even ask about the converted garage. Or the landscaping.

In 2003 we left that perfect house & moved to an older, "fixer-upper". The previous owner had it freshly painted white. We promptly painted it "harvest gold", with different accent colors here & there (two shades of darker beige, one yellow, and one red). The yellow, in the kitchen, didn't look right next to the stained oak cabinets, so she painted it one of the darker beige colors. And the red in the entryway was too dark, so it got the lighter beige. Then, the brand-new linoleum in the kitchen got ripped up so we could install 16" slate tile. Then the nice tile countertops got ripped out in favor of custom concrete countertops. Then the stained oak cabinets looked dingy next to the nice countertops, so we sanded them down & re-stained them. Then I converted the garage into a home gym. Upon seeing the entryway in the lighter beige, she realized that the harvest gold was too dark so we covered it with the lighter beige. Did I mention that this house had even higher vaulted ceilings?

Two months ago (12 months from the day we bought it) we sold that house & moved to our latest "fixer-upper", which had just been freshly painted inside, but to my dismay, was painted white. And the carpets were badly stained, so we ripped them up & installed laminate flooring in the whole house. And the hall bath was ugly, so it got ripped out & a new shower installed, toilet moved to make way for a new vanity, and I'm on my way home to start laying the new tile floor. And hints have been dropped that the formica countertops have already been slated for demo.

BTW, when I say "she painted" or "we installed", I really mean "I". And usually I end up nearly electricuting myself or smashing the life out of a finger.

Oh, and I forgot about the condo before moving to Fresno. I painted the hell out of that thing, too. Same with the mobile home, which had nice wood paneling. PITA to paint, isn't it?

So Zio;

You gonna stay in the new house for a while?

I must admit; Mrs K. has done the majority of the work. I help with the table saw on the floors, but she does 'most everything else.

I am having a bit of trouble with the color selection . . . . .

Oh, and one more thing. Ten years ago I built a set of corner shelves for the TV and VCR. I hand picked the lumber, cut all the miters, actually burnt the grain with a torch to get the look I was seeking. These things are a work of art. Perhaps the best bit of carpentry that I have ever done!

Gone.

I am still considering fighting for them, but having been married for 28 years; I pretty much know how the fight will end. :bang:

This is why men and women shouldn't live together. Most men would be perfectly happy living in a carboard box as long as it had a toilet a TV and a keg in it. :moon:

And a giant garage. On second thought, who needs a house if you've got the right garage?

As we speak my house is being painted - but at least not by me- I have no idea what i am going to come home to. Its sort of a pea green. The off white was "boring". Oh well.

I say, if your woman is good enough to put up with your dirtbike hobby, and she lets you spend money on dirtbike stuff, let her paint the house however she likes. Women like to have their hobbies too. My wife likes to read romance novels. I call them literary porno's. If you can live in a cardboard box, you can sit in a pea green living room! I let my wife do whatever she wants to the house. She knows not to make it too girly.

Also, house paint should come off your truck pretty easy. Earlier this year I was driving in my 88 Trans Am GTA. Some knucklehead had spilled a 5 gallon bucket of blue house paint all over the road. I didn't realize it until I heard the splash. It was all over my white GTA. I was furious. By the time I got to somewhere I could wash it, it was dry. But it came off with some scrubbing from a wash mit! Matt

I guess I should post some benefits to the home remodel ;)

I'm on the Zio plan. 1999 we buy our first house, and it needs allot of remodeling. But guess who was able to go buy whatever tools they needed :) Dewalt 18 volt 6 pack!!

So in 2001 we bought a different house, We started by remodeling the basement. New paint, trim, and some room relocation, guess who was able to buy some more tools :yeehaw:

Then 2003 comes around and we start on the Living room and dining room. Didn't get many tools this time, but learned why you should not pull up floor boards that are 3/4 inch tongue and grove plywood nail gunned down with glue.

So now Summer 2004! Summer is my busiest time of year for me but somebody decided it was time to start on the rec room, which is next to the kitchen has the fireplace in it. and a door to the bathroom. So lots of corners. This time however bead board with fancy little trim was a requirement. So her Dad shows up with his tools, Finish Nail gun, Compound Miter, and a few other nice items. He has been in town a week with said tools, helps for a day and says, been fun we need to go home  , So i start trying to cut some corner trim with a 1970 toy hand miter saw I found in storage! It didn't work so well, my corners loked like I had a beaver chew them fo me. In the end I got a nice Dewalt Compound Miter saw, and then I tried putting up the trim, but after a couple crushed pieces I knew it was hopeless to use my trusty hammer, besides I can hardly hit a big nail let alone a dinky finish nail.
So off to town to get a Passload Finish nail gun(With Roosters approval on said nail gun), when I got home I brought my Air compressor up from the shop, yet couldn't find a 220 socket, argh. So I ended up back to town and got a little Pancake compressor :aj:
So far we have done eggshell white, Evergreen with some funky texture, Burgandy with said texture, Sage (light green) , and some other odd white that's not white. We also got some funky yellow for the kitchen, which is on the radar along with the floor and new window trim.

So Gentlemen, when the wimmens wants remodeling you better give in, cause it's the only what to get the tools to build your dream shop! I still need a table saw! I have also found the promise of doing some of this, counts as a Christmas or Birthday gift, barely but counts!!

someone kick kc10chief. he's been brainwashed.

speaking of tools... I bought a cheap tile saw from Lowes a year ago. Did the kitchen floor with it (soft but big tiles), and a bathroom countertop (same soft slate), and a bathroom floor (regular ceramic). It's still going strong.

And re: painting, we bought a nice commercial sprayer a year ago. I painted this whole house with it un only a few hours. Of course, I had little prep work because we had ripped out all the trim & baseboard.

I do have to say one thing for Mrs. Pred, though. I have not picked up a paintbrush for interior work since we've been married. She can get as silly as she wants, just as long as it's not puke pink again.

Hey, Jon, Mrs. K is no longer allowed to visit Mrs. L at the events. I dont want any of that stuff rubbing off. Mrs. L has had no visions of changing any colors, she was a little upset when my new bike was yellow. I attempted to explain to her that the 05 RMs came from the factory in only that color. It didnt sit well so I went ahead and ordered up an 05 Orange bike for the enduro series. She is now content.

Training, Training, Training. I dont know how it works in OK, but he appears to be on the receiving end of the training. :yikes:
