Parts are real easy to get Northwest cz, maico has every thing I have ever needed. CZ transmissions are bullet proof if you keep oil in them.

I don,t know about the 80 CZ but a 79 maico is the best handling older bike I've ever been on. My naked room is getting a 74 YZ 360 real soon!

1979, my Honda CR250 just got the fox treatment front and back. I absorbed 2 from friends, one from dismay that his bike was faster with me on it, and the other from my race bud, his front end fell apart. There was a guy, dropping brand new Maico 250's out of train box cars. He was selling them for 400 dollars a pop, and did get busted later. That bike was something else. I did learn to lace rims, that bike sure ate them up. It was like Maico quit being competitive since 75? After the 79, then what? Till I seen a recent link to all new Maico's!

I got a '78 Maico 450 Magnum sitting in the corner of my basement. Bought it a few years ago and haven't really touched it. Its right next to a '81 kz1000 J model.......

My 79 440 and 400 are both great bikes (to me). I like owning something that backs my heritage also. Talk to a Maico guy and they'll swear they were the best thing since sliced bread. My buddy sleeps with his RMs (he kicked the YZ out and she sleeps in the barn now). Gearboxs and bikes falling apart - nope! Modern lubricants and mechanics that know how to fasten things correctly go a long way. Just like a new bike should be taken apart and gone over the older bikes need a little "improving".

The old bike seemd to vibrate more. And people worked on them less. That's a good way to lose parts. Foxforks drill-and-wire idea is bulletproof. A drill press and v-blocks are nice to have.

I am going to try a welded and balanced crank. Get rid of ALL Suzuki's friggin washers, and go with flanged bolts and nuts! Lots of loctite, And I have a guy, works at Universal, I shall see what I can do with the clamps, bar mounts. Maybe a newer set of forks. Rear shocks are still open, something MX TECH can fiddle with?

That pic of the 370, the 125 from the same year, should be the same size. They were not rebuildable? I think I could fix that. Sunday morning it is. The Hodaka and Husky are gone(saturday anyways) But, I will get a video of this collection, with owner approval.
Did you go yet?

No 370, they stopped in 76 or 77? But, 3 RM400's for 2000. 2 are damn near race ready, and 1 rolling with almost all the parts. Or, 1500 for 3 79-80 RM125's. And he has at least a ton of 125 parts. The Can Am 500, 5000, maybe, true link? A 250 orange tank sure looked sweet, 1500. Got to get on them pics!

That's the first yamaha rm I've ever seen, lol.

The 400 in the first pic is sweet. A guy in my area has a 78 250 that looks pretty clean for 1500.

What a great find!

I had yamahas in those days. I guess I didn't know how to set up the rear, as I got ejected forward several times. Once was good enough to separate my shoulder. Does that qualify me in the "broken collarbone club". Nah, I guess not. :)

We all had big trouble with early 80's yz125 gearboxes, during the transition to water cooling. Someone was splitting their cases every week or two. It got to be a pain, and we got better at it after a while (splitting the cases, not saving the gears) The yz250's in the late 70's were tougher by far than the yz125's of the late 70's and early 80's IMO.

Maybe the gearbox issues on the yz125's were just us? I don't know, but I'd be careful with that one. The Fox shock sounds pretty sweet though.
