Bundy. I can ride from my house to the Gavilan Springs area.

I agree on the Corona area. Not exactly Corona, but in the Riverside County area. South of Corona, Temescal Valley. Prices are still reasonable, but they are going up fast. Lots of interconnecting trails and open land. On the West side of the 15 freeway is the Cleveland National forest. Trails run from the Saddleback area of Orange County all the way to La Cresta, S/W of Temecula.

Riding a dual sport is the best/legal way to ride the Forest trails, although it can be done on a mx bike also.

Used homes with property are not selling very good. Most of the new people coming to the area want new homes without property. They are coming from the city and think they are moving into the city. They want the 'cookie cutter' type homes that GSR described. This means that there are many good used homes with property available and they are very reasonable price wise.

Prices on the new homes are going up fast, but prices on homes that are only a few years old are depressed.

Anybody know of a good reciepe for crow? :)

My earlier comments were tongue-in-check - sort of :moon: I am suprised that the lots are 2 acre minimum. But that's what you get when you move to hell's half acre :p How hot does it get out there? I'll take Torrance/Manhattan Bch/Santa Barbara any day over those areas.

Only problem with the areas of SoCal that you can get that kind of house/property is the fact that it's so far everything. No Corona IS NOT the center of the universe regardless of what some people will have you think.

Seriously, depending on the job situation - commuting on the 91 sucks - the Corona area could be a great place to live.

Ok since I live in the High Desert and seeing that KTM is outnumbered I figured I better chime in. The High Desert has a love/hate relationship. You either love it or you dont. I have yet to find anyone that is middle of the road or thinks its just alright. I came from the upper San Gabriel Valley area and I wouldnt trade living up here with anything below the hill again. Yep nothing like jumping on the bike and riding right out the garage into the desert or toward the hills. The house prices are cheaper with more land, less smog, less traffic and seasonal weather changes through out the year. What else could you ask for? Sure you might have to drive down the hill in order to work but its worth it. Nothing like driving through the Cajon Pass during the middle of the day and seeing the trails along Cleghorn or up on the ridge calling your name or coming out of the haze they call smog into the clean air of the desert to convince me why I made the right choice to move here.
Besides who wants to spend $2K+/Month on a mortgage when you can have more for less up here.

What makes Torrance and Manhattan Beach desireable?
Being close to LAX so you can get the hell out of there when you cant take it anymore? The traffic is terrible, if you get off early one day, it will do you no good because by the time you drive the 80 miles to the nearst place to ride its dark. Santa Barbara i`ll give you, but it is still too far away from the riding spots for me. If I lived in one of those ciyies I would feel heamed in knowing that it is so far from some wide open spaces.
I realise that I was raised a country boy and will allways stay a country boy. I personally have no use for the beach, I cant stand to get in the salt water. Plus its usually cold and windy. Was at HB today working and it was COLD and WINDY. I`m a lake and creek type of guy, oak trees and big rope swings to dive off of.
I like living in Corona because I am close to every thing that matters to me. Riding, 25 minutes ( okay, ol89r, I know you can ride from your house, but it would still take me 15 or 20 minutes to get to your house, because I cant ride from my house) , mountains are an hour and the desert is about 45 or so.
Idealy I would like to move somewhere where I can ride on my own property, but with the wifes new promotion, looks like we are gonna be here a while. Thats why I am looking for the biggest place I can find that is still close to Orange county where the wife works.
On the 91 now they have toll lanes that work really well and both of our employers foot the bill, so that works out sweet. I work construction so I have worked everywhere and experianced the traffic in every city, and they all suck.

I'm just winding you up :p I don't really have anything against the Corona area. It's just not my cup o' tea.

Torrance/Manhattan Bch/SB have much better weather and air quality - despite the fact that Torrance has 4-5 oil refineries. Gotta love the wind that blows all that crap to Corona.

That's great that your employers foot the bill for the FastTrack system. I used to go from Torrance to Corona 3-4 times/month for work and even the fasttrack lanes looked like hell at times.

For my type of work I'm kinda stuck in major metropolitan areas and the drive from Corona to Torrance (or even Cypress) would be a non-starter.

Ok I have to agree with gospeedracer it does get a little warm in the summer but after living up here for a while you get that lizard effect and it dont bother you that much. Besides you can always head to the hills or head out for riding in the morning. Just as long as you get back before 11AM before the sun starts to roast your body to the seat of your bike. About that time you start to realize the value of a hydration backpack or camelback.

Ha, that's what I thought. Last time I was in Ridgecrest to help a friend move we took the bikes along. We woke up at 5:30/6:00am and it was already 98 degrees! The bikes never left the back of the truck the whole weekend.

Gospeedracer ive tried riding out at Stoddard Wells during August once. Man that had to one of the dumbest things Ive ever done. Chalk that one up for experience.

I live in Burbank,Cali and everyone i know rides and i am just starting to get into it. But anyway i live close to three different colleges about thirty minutes or less next to Gorman i am not sure if u know where that is but u will soon. I use to go off roading every weekend and i have to tell u Burbank is not that far from anything. Good city etc.
If u really want to live where everything if either off roading or dirt bike riding then i suggest living in Palmdale or Landcaster. Very cheap and out in the desert. I hope this will help u if i am not to late.

I live in Ridgecrest and I love it here! It gets hot in the summer, but that just keeps out the riff-raff ;-)

I ride right from my garage. I live in the nice side of town and I spent less than $200k on my house. Supposedly the cheapest housing market in CA. There is a small community college and a small hospital here. Crime is really low. Kinda small town living. Main employer is the Naval Air Weapons Station.

Lancaster is the closest big town... about an hour away.

I like Ridgecrest... now don't everyone laugh at the same time.
