I've read these posts with great interest, and even looked up Santa Clarita on mapquest. :) I live in Missouri, near the Lake of the Ozarks area. Springfield, MO was my home until recently. I've always lived near this area, and I'm lookin' for a change.
I'm an avid streetbike rider, and I just picked up my 2000 KDX. This is my first dirtbike since my XR 80 as a kid. I'm loving it. :) I've been eyeing SoCal for a while now. The 20 degree temps here in MO are fueling my desire ot move to a (warm) year round riding environment.

So, what would be a good recommendation for a single, 26 year old guy who loves riding bikes on both the street and dirt? Job opportunities? Crime rate (nil in my current area)?
I'd be bringing 2 streetbikes, a dirtbike, my Ranger, 6'x10' enclosed trailer, Craftsman roll-aways, parts washer, etc. Pretty much a full shop setup. Anyone looking for a roommate? :)

My, how things have changed since this thread started. House prices have jumped up 100 to 150K in SoCal since last spring. Houses on my street are going for 300 and rising, and this is a relatively inexpensive area in SoCal (north of the Riverside city limits and fairly central to riding).

If I wanted to move further a little further in, say to Upland, a similar home would cost at least 400K, but I would cut about 15 minutes from my drive to work. Hardly worth the extra payment (I think).

Of course, this is only on one income, but at least I don't own just "half". Double income families could look at a nice 600K starter home even further in.

Since I spent my first 27 years in so cal. I felt I should provide my two cents.Home prices have gone through the roof! I moved from the san fernando valley at the end of 94. My friend bought a house at the same time. He paid less than 140,000 for a fixer in the west part of the valley. Houses on his street are now selling for 350,000.The traffic is just crazy. Way too many people there and its only getting worse.Im pretty sure all of my friends would move but jobs homes and family keep them from doing so.The good thing is you still have the four seasons Fire Flood Earth Quake and Smog. LoL. I moved to the Reno area from the valley and I LOVE IT HERE! It is the best move I have ever made!Play it safe look before you leap!

Dusting?! The snow is deaper than my freaking flip flops! ;)
Ya, I guess 6 inches could be considered a dusting compared to what you got. :)
This really bites. I got caught out in it on Christmas Eve when it started to come down. I thought I could get out and back before there was too much of it. WRONG! Once I reached the safety of the driveway, AFTER I fishtailed around in a parking lot then skiddered onto my street, I marched right into the house and told Eddie to pack his bags we're moving back to Socal, I don't care if we have to get jobs as strawberry pickers!!! :debil:
Game over man, game over!

GSR----I've been wearing t-shirts and shorts the last couple of days! :debil: It'll get cold again in a few days, but nothing like what all you guys east of the Rockies have to endure! :moon:

Traction is real good here in the dez right now with all the rain we've gotten the last two weeks, and another storm is headed in this weekend--yep, it's riding season in the Hi Dez!:yeehaw:

Well, thankfully we've got a plowblade for the 4 wheeler, so we were able to scrape all the white stuff off of our driveway. The Jeeps will make it out, but my little Ranger is still stuck at the bottom of our driveway/hill. :(

I took the KDX out to play in the 8" of snow, but just managed to fall over in the woods and break my cluch perch clamp. DANGIT! I like to see snow once in a while, but I've been snowed in and unable to leave my house for too many days this year! And the worst part is, usually we get our snow in January. :(

I hate the cold, and I hate the snow. Nice to visit, but I don't want to live here. ;) The comment I made today was "if I could live somewhere that never dipped below 50, I'd be happy". The folks are eye-ing a move to AZ or NM, as they both hate the cold, too. SoCal, take me away! :)
