Guys,

Newbe here just purchased a 1996 KDX200. Going through it before a big ride in a couple weeks. I saw that on the exhaust side of the bike down low the coolant hose is riding on the exhaust. This doesn't seem right, but all the hoses i've looked for are the same shape. Does everyone's do this? Is this not a problem? How hot does the exhaust get?

You might have a bent exhaust, or somebody replaced the hose with a piece that is a slightly different length. More likely the exhaust is bent, though. Use a little piece of Moto Tile between the chamber and the hose. I think it's called Maier Heat Tile these days.

I think some of the aftermarket pipes are a little fatter in that area. I know my fmf pipe would rest on that hose. I just slit a piece of the same size hose and snapped down over it. I never had heat issues such as melting the hose or anything but the vibration will eventually wear through and cause a leak if you don’t put something in between to protect it. I have since went back to a factory pipe and it does not touch the hose.

Ok good deal mideastrider I put another piece of pipe in there like you suggested. I'm curious why you went back to the stock pipe?
