Looks good! Give us a ride report when you're done. Have you set up the springs and valving for your riding style and weight? As far as I know, the internals have not been updated in the forks for a long time so what you have in your '91 should be similar to what's in today's KX5's forks. There was a writeup on Destry Abbott's KX5 in the June Dirtbike and he touted Acme Suspension for the KX5.

Best,
Greg

yep the numberplate is oem. i had to buy about 200 bucks worth of oem stuff. the numberplate, guides and steering stem bearings were the most expensive. all the oem stuff is expensive really. there were missing nuts, washers, etc. that i needed though. i lucked up and found another complete wheel that was in great shape and had a good tire on it to boot.

you pretty much need the whole front end of the kx
mine happens to be 91 kx500 triple clamp and forks (my steering stem bearings (89kdx200) were the same part number as the 91 kx500 bearings, you might check yours on bikebandit, not sure what a kdx200sr is). i got the front wheel, axle, and front brake line off a 90 kx500. i got all my replacement pieces from bikebandit (plastic, nuts, bolts, etc). i used my 200 front brake resevoir with the kx brake line. the triple clamp goes right in no shims needed. the kx forks are longer right know im running them 10mm up. rode on them last weekend, man those things are awesome. wish i hadn't wasted the time and money on putting the cartridge emulators in my old forks. give me a yell if you need more info or need to see more pictures.

jw i still have the cartidge em forks and im keeping them i have another set of 89 kdx forks i bought off **** cause i drilled my damping rods. if u are thinking about doing the fork cange let me know. i have all the part numbers that match but its on 20 different sheets of paper. i couldnt take any pics today it rained like hell. going to ride tomorrow. whatever money u spend on putting kx forks on an 89 kdx will be worth every dollar. they rock. but im still gonna get a 2005 kx250, btw my riding buddy on an 00 yz250 said my bike rides like a cadillac. he said how do you get tired on this thing. i said im 15 years older than u. ps i stay right behind him

yeah jag they help, i think i was running 5wt oil in my forks with the emulators. i just didnt like the fact i had no external adjustments. the kx forks have external compression and rebound adjustments.

jw i would say they were noticeably better as I could tell a difference with them in. the only thing i didnt like about them was cutting my compression adjusters, drilling my damping rods and mainly having to take the forks off and apart to adjust compression (via adjusting a spring on the emulator).

First I've heard of 'no shims' needed when putting a kx fork set in the kdx.

And you didn't have to swap stems?

Must be the '89/'91 magic setup.

Sounds like you either did your homework.......or just got lucky?

Good deal either way!!

cc i got lucky when i bought the forks and triple clamp. then as i was doing my homework i found that the upper and lower stem bearings and even the nuts on the stem were the same.

also im not sure about the 92 and newer 125/250 kx forks/bearings but the 89 thru 2001(thats as far as i looked)kx500 steering stem bearings and nuts are the same as the 89-94 kdx200 steering stem bearings and nuts.
