Mark, not impound the kids, their bikes! But you may be on to something there.............. If you can provide proof that it belongs to you, I will give you a map to the tree your kid is duct taped to in the woods. :p

That's what I call my python squeeze move. If you squeeze them tight enough they stop screaming. I got dang near $65.00 for that one on the black market. :debil:

Be forewarned now. If your kid turns up missing at DW04 you might find em on ebay.

To give Okie and crew a break, that maybe one or some of the days be run by the mods and volunters, maybe each day a different crew run the show (if at all possible) - or at least have two teams, so you get one day on and one day off - 3 teams would be even better ! - one day on, two days off

I definitely plan to attend a few more days next year - missing the team hare scramble and poker run was a bummer.

Great ideas everyone! Please keep them coming... FYI - there is a similar post going on in the DW 03 planning and volunteers forum...

A lot of the ideas you have talked about here are already in the works for next year, so please continue to let us know what your thoughts are, we take your suggestions/concerns very seriously. You can always pm/email myself or Pokie anytime!

Some basic rules for which class to run in the events. Seems like MX is the main event with protests. Brief explanation for skill level posted on the sign up table. I suspect there are quite a few people who are not regulars on the board or who are not even memebers (came as friends of members) who figure C class is C class. I know the leaders in the C class ride pretty much like the Beginner class riders around here. Some clear jumps, some don't. Some brief descriptions about the DW skill levels should help with which classes to run.

I think the class division worked this year very well. I was watching the C class and was proud that there weren't any sandbaggers in there doing a bunch of jumps. Some of the B riders could have / should have run the A class, but it wasn't bad.

I do think we should institute a new rule that anyone who finished top 5 one year must move up the following year.

I did hear (second hand) that someone complained about Ricky running the Kid's A class, but he is 14, rides 5 or 6 times a year, and was riding his mother's beat up 8 year old KX80, so I wasn't going to make him ride with the big bikes. Honestly, he surprised me and scared the crap out of Lori. He had never jumped that new step-up until he was in the race. He wadded up the 80 a few months ago trying to jump something he shouldn't have and I didn't fix it until the day before leaving for DW.

yes, a good plan to carry your own bung fodder. Take it from someone who has shortened up a few sleeves over the years . . . :|

Next year we will make it more than 1 day and bring our families with us. My girl, Taika (6) "Mo Trouble", had a ball and so did my nephew, Jonathan (9) "lil Bundu".

I watched him practice on the kids track and spent some time rescuing little tykes who had come a cropper and were left stranded on the track. Where were their parents ? In think for posted practice times the tracks need to be flagged.

1) Family who have someone practicing need to be "volunteered". I'm game.
2) For the Porta-potties, I suggest placing more than one at the designated location - Yeah, and carry your own bog-roll.
3) For offenders, speeding in the campground, no helmets, generator abusers, mooning, etc. there needs to be some penalty - Put them in the stocks and hurl bad fruit and abuse at them. This can be held at a specific time during the day. Say high noon and all offenders are punished alike. Confiscating a bike is far too cruel !
4) For more interaction, evening events like Texas Poker or Bachelor/ette Auction - (Julius Pleaser sounds like a winner). A charity auction may be an idea. This way we can get to meet the characters and put names to their faces.
5) Provide staff relief for Okie, Pokie and Shiftless WRT registering new arrivals, etc. Put up a roster and take a turn in assisting. Count me in.

Thanks Okie, family and crew for a well organized event.

Gomer that complaint was handled by myself- it was nothing more then a sore loser. He came off the track claiming it was a big bore and I laughed at him and told him he needed to twist the throttle harder if he wanted to keep up.

What ever happened to "It's all about having fun"? Ricky was having fun and so he was relaxed and rode the best I've ever seen him do at a Dirt Week. 95% rider & 5% bike anyway right?

LOL! It does have an 85 cylinder on it, but that is somewhat negated by the crushed pipe where I had to bend the silencer back after it was pointing out the side. I'm surprised that it still runs.

What made me the happiest was that he must be listening to me a little. I've told him to never follow people and he didn't. He was 4th going into the first turn and passed 2 by turning inside. He then passed the leader in the 2nd turn by turning tight again.

I just wish I had listened to my own advice. :(

wow.... very good points....they all have merit. It's both a challenge and fun (actually) to make improvements especially when they are noticed and appreciated.
By the way, as for schedule changes: all are announced at each day's RIDERS MEETING that all are required to attend, and the white board reflects the changes.... Notice the difference in crowd size under the tent during these meetings Vs the AWARDS presentation on the last evening?
We need to emphasize that the RIDERS MEETING is not just a pep talk about riding but also about all those issues that are being mentioned in this thread.
That kids dont show up for these early morning meetings is not surprising, but we need to make their adult supervisors/parents responsible for imparting the messages of these meetings to their short-attention span kids.
I can just see it now, next year the PA system will wake everyone up with the well known refrain from a Robin Williams movie: GOOD MORNING DIRTRIDERS...

We had a simple rule for the kids in my group: If you didn't attend the morning meeting, you didn't ride that day. Needless to say but no one missed a meeting.
