Hi et al,
I'm looking for the jetting specs for a mikuni
33mm pumper carb on a stock, unrestricted, XR250.
I've seen plenty of 36mm pumpers on 400's and kitted
270's, but not an XR250.
Thanks,
Carl

Chilly,
Check out xrsonly.com, under intake.
This says it is only for a XR400, but I have read about this from another good source, and they say it comes setup for the riding conditions you tell them you ride in. They will jet it for you before they send it if you call them to discuss this w/ them...Is what I take from that.
Call them, and ask if they have one for an an XR250. If not, ask them your question below. I hear they know their stuff.
I ride an XR400, and I've thought about getting one of these for mine too.
EXPENSIVE!!

My understanding is the XR250 is really good with the stock carb so it's not worth the $$. I have a Mikuni 33mm on my KLX300 and it made a big difference. But I rode my friend's stock, unrestricted XR250 and it was as responsive as my modified KLX, so they're probably right. But another good source is Stroker, especially since you have it already. They were putting pumper carbs on 4 strokes before anyone else and have lots of experience. Call them at 760-948-2871.

The XR400 is the one that really benefits from a pumper carb, with the Mikuni 36mm being the one for that bike.

Hi Mountain,
I called XR's Only before the post.
They offered the 36mm pumper kit for XR400
bikes, but we both agreed that it's too much carb for
a stock 250. I've seen some 280 kits that included a
34mm flatslide, but it wasn't a pumper.
My thinking goes along the lines that a 33mm
would be big enough to grow with. A pumper would
give me enough "snap" of the throttle to put off the
280 kit until I need rings.
So I bit the bullet and ordered the 33mm pumper
Mikuni from Stroker Speed. It's supposed to be pre-jetted,
have the throttle kit, and all the other parts I need to install
it. My buddy can then look at my kit and cluge together his
own using an "off the shelf" carb and whatever he needs to
install it.
See ya,
Carl

Jeepers Doug,

I must have been typing the reply to Mountian when you posted.
I had already talked to Stroker and Sudco before all this. I had wanted
to kluge together my own kit, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
I'm not looking for a "night/day" difference. I would like to be able to
float the front wheel over bumps a lot easier without my butt hanging
out past the rear fender. My experiance with installing pumpers in
place of stock CV and roundslides is that you get a better "lunge"
of the line when you whack the throttle. I find myself waiting for the
motor to spin up and start making some power, with the throttle wide
open. I would consider the transpant a success if I can start to
"squirt" out of the turns and take better advantage of the small,
straight trail sections. The ones you don't see until after you're
through the turn.

That's probably your best bet. Glad to hear you don't have big expectations since my pumper carbed KLX300 probably has just slightly more snap than my buddies XR250. I did it for the exact same reasons as you and was not disappointed, but then the CVK carb that comes stock on the KLX was a remnant from the dual sport KLX250s in Japan and is very lame. All KLX's should come stock with a Mikuni 33 pumper.

In the KLX world we have people putting them onKLX250s, 300s, and even the big bore 331s. It's a bit small for the 331 and definitely too small for the stroked 365's, but it should be all you'll ever need on your XR2XX. And it's a lot less finicky than the FCR 35 carbs. Stroker will do you well -- should be bolt on and go. Let us know how it goes after you've ridden it some.

EVERYONE has been around longer than Stroker! Jeeze, Powroll's been doing it since '64, XR's Only since the early 80's, and Thumper since the late '80's. Stroker's the new kid on the block.

I'm not saying Roesler doesn't know his stuff, but he's still the new kid on the thumper block.
