Prayers needed

We got word this morning that my wife's 16 year old nephew is in intensive care, in a coma. He went to a Homecoming party, and it seems that someone slipped him something in a drink, we aren't sure what, the speculation is it was Ecstasy. Whatever it was, he had some sort of bad reaction to it, and he has been comatose for over 48 hours now, with no change in his condition.

This boy is an exemplary young man. He has a 4.0 GPA, and is already taking college courses as a sophomore, with several scholorship offers. He is totally against drugs, and would never have taken anything knowingly. The other teens at the party tried to revive him for 4 hours before they finally called someone, because they were afraid they would get in trouble.:(

His parents, and my wife, are devastated by this, and he needs everyone's prayers.

My prayers are with you all. People just don't realize how dangerous stuff like that can be. I pray he's alright and the person responsible will have learned a very valuable life long lesson.

These are 16 yr olds. One of them WILL talk. Find out who did this and get this punk out of society now. We have little time on this earth to be hindered by such foolishness. I would like to have a poke at the basturd that provided these kids this crap.

What makes it so bad is that on top of slipping him something without his knowledge, they decided to take his life in their hands when they made the decision to not call 911, or at least his parents, when they first realized something was wrong. Out of fear that they might get in a little trouble, they chose to take the chance that he might die rather than call someone. Then, when they finally did call someone after 4 hours, they lied about what happened, by saying that he had drank a bottle of rum by himself, and that was why he was passed out. But blood tests showed there was no alcohol in his blood stream at all. Even now, 48 hours later. no one is willing to tell what he was really given. I hope this lack of regard for his life prompts the police and the Judge to make an example of the person that gave him whatever it was.

My condolences, and best wishes for a complete recovery by your nephew. I have a son who also went to homecoming last night. He is also a straight-arrow kid, whom we don't worry about much, but it hadn't occurred to me that there might be that kind of irresponsible, vicious person who can't stand to see someone with standards and who would risk so much just for an evil joke. We will be increasingly vigilant about whom our son goes with, and what they do. Again, our hopes and prayers for your nephew.

We will add him to our list of families that need our prayers, unfortunatley, there are alot. It's good to know that people still stick together and help out whenever possible but it's sad to think that it only occurs when something tragic happens. He will definately be in our prayers.

Please tell your wife and his parents that we (ALL OF DRN) are thinking about them and my prayers for a speedy recovery are definitely with them.

Update

Well, he woke up today, and is coherent and conversive. We are very thankful for this, and I am sure the prayers offered by all of you here helped. He's not out of the woods yet, though. The doctor wasn't very happy with the results of the EEG, so he wants to perform an MRI. Our nephew also seems to have some slight paralysis in his left arm and hand, although the doctor says this is not uncommon in cases of severe coma or brain trauma, and it could be only temporary. We are still hoping.

The other teens that were present that night still won't tell the truth, each one of them tells a different story, and none of the stories fit the facts. The police are starting to apply the pressure hard, and eventually, someone will tell the truth, we hope.

All of you that have teen children, never let your guard down. No matter how good your child's morals and values are, or how bright and well behaved they are, it only takes one stupid jerk that wants to get a laugh at another's expense to forever change your childs life, and your own.

I thank you all for your prayers and support. It means a lot to us.

Spanky glad to hear he is coming around. Extasy is labelled as a recreational drug and said to be harmless. Until this is driven home to kids as the lie it is this scenario will be repeated. Also there are versoins of other drugs called extasy due to similar effects but these have very serious side effects and very dangerous reactions when mixed with other substances.

This is a very scary facrt of life today and only points out that to be parents you have to do the work of parents not best friends.

Wow!

Thank God he is doing better. I have to tell you it does not sound like Ecstasy though. I used to run a night club here in Dallas and I had to help out a lot of people who had OD'd or been dosed(slipped). The important thing is he is ok.

I cannot stress how important it is to watch your drinks alcaholic or otherwise. never set it down. And if you are a woman especially never accept a drink from anyone. if someone wants to buy you one make sure you get it from the bartenders hands YOURSELF!! I might sound paranoid but after being a club day in day out, I have seen how many idiots are out there.


I will be praying for him to have a FULL recovery.

having a son 17 myself I tend to worry about this very thing. No matter how well they behave they can always be a victim of circumstance. While some people might become judgemental of the parents and ask what he was doing there in the first place, my son often goes to "alcohol-less" clubs with his friends. You can't stop them from living their life.
My prayers are with the 16 yr. old and his family for a full recovery.
