Ok, I just spent $450 have cycle-tech racing in Knoxville revalve my suspension front and rear with Gold Valves. I'm not too impressed so far but I haven't had a chance to play with the clickers much yet. The thing that makes me a little suspicious is, I had a seal leaking in the right fork when I took it there and when I got them back and installed the forks the right fork seal was leaking! :scream: And I haven't noticed a big difference in the ride. I rode the bike about 3 times before I took the leaking fork back and when he took it apart, he ask me where I had been riding because the seal had a lot of sand in it. I ride it in the DIRT because it's a DIRTBIKE! I sure don't ride it on the street  Then he charged me $12 for the new seal and didn't charge me labor out of the goodness of his heart. Oldslodave, do you still have the video and want to sell it? I would like to learn to do this myself just to make sure it really has Gold Valves in it!! I though $450 was a good price for the valves and labor though, but I did keep the stock springs because the spring rates was correct for what I wanted. I probably shouldn't even make this post yet but the same leaking seal makes me suspicious!

George ,

Expect a few more chest thumping ego trip posts against you and then your account will be probably be locked out before you can respond. Then they will all talk about how your are afraid to come back and post.

That seems to be the norm here , several tuners have been locked out of this board. We never hear that side of things though.

If anyone on this board is really serious about discussing anything it should be taken to a neutral forum. Preferably one with auto spell check.

Back on topic:
Rydog, do your own research on the subject. Listen to what people have to say and make a decission that you think you will be happy with. If you choose poorly you will know better next time. If you choose wisely you will have a suspension tuner for life.

As for me, MX-Tech is the best. I also like RG3, in my opinion they are really close, I just seem to jump flatter and handle square edge stuff better on the MXT.

I have not tried all of them out there but I have tried ProAction (currently on TwinSpars bike) and I do not like it, but it was not set up specifically for me either. LCS feels good but I have heard horror strories about their craftsmanship and attention to detail from more than one person.

This is how much I enjoy my suspension... at DW01 Jeremy rolls up and says:
Jer: Thump, let me update your suspension.
Thump: nope, ya aint touching it, it's perfect
Jer: It's over a year old... I have huge improvements!
Thump: nope, ya aint touching it, it's perfect
Jer: Dude, if you don't like it I will put the old stuff back in!
Thump: Better save the old stuff.....

Jer gets done and is as jumpy as a race horse...
Jer: go try it!

After I return from my test ride:
Jer: What did you think?
Thump: "clunk" (that was the sound of my jaw hitting the ground) Awesome!

I will forever trust Jer when he talks suspension after that. If you don't use MXT I would put serious thought into Enzo, RG3, WhiteBros or TrakControl because Jer WILL NOT recommend crappy products and or workmanship.

I would be cautious of a company that chooses to debate an issue by making retarded insults like: I know how bad you want to be a hero or skirting the issue completely by trying to divert the heat on to spelling as if that makes a difference.

George, you can add your kowledge here and people will listen but if you want to insult people on the board you are going to get ripped and your company will become a joke to the +16K members of DRN. I know.. I know... 16K is peanuts to you... but guess what? This is the future of the sport when it comes to these types of questions.

Care to offer some evidence?

Really? I don't remember sending you the ban log? So you must have hacked into the site to get that information... or are you as FOS as you sound?

Just drop the BS and answer the question the Rydog asked. He is asking for opinions not egos.

Rob Mann (GP racing) still posts here, on occasion. I don't think he is banned. He also was allowed to have his say on this board.

GQ,
Give me break bud.. Thats the lamest responce I've ever seen.. You can act like nothings ever happened, you can pretend your this level dude who is such a nice person, but the facts are you've made your bed. If you want to prentend to this you can.

So buddy you don't deserve anyting other than waht you've sown. 25 years of #$@$ coming at you GQ.. And this is just the start. You can't hide from the facts by trying to make me look shrill. You may foul some readers here, but the industry knows about what I'm talking about, maybe I'm just the first to say it publically

Unless you come up with something good to say don't waste anymore of our time.

Best Regards,
Jer

I see that you didn't print my last response. Now, because I won't argue with you, you must need to censor my responses. I feel sorry for you.

WHAT?! First of all we don't print anything... it is the internet, and if you don't hit the little button cleverly marked"SUBMIT" no one will see it. Your posts have not been censored, I believe operator error is to blame for this one.

I have noticed from my chats with suspension tuners across the pond and here very few seem to get along-i wonder what it is that working with little round washers makes people react so strange?just trying to add a bit of light humour into this heavy thread.

Rydog, according to your profile, you ride a pretty common bike. I would think the chances are very good you could ride some bikes done-up by different tuners.

I have no proffesional connection with MX-Tech, but often let people tryout the products, they speak for themselves. No one likes to waste money, and suspension performance is at the top of the list on important go fast items. I have a local sponsored rider, who uses my MX-Tech forks instead of the ones he is furnished with.

Bwaahaahaa. Are you talking about the test that had Jeremy Wilkey's MX-Tech blowing several other suspension companies out of the water? Let me guess Wahkisiahkiasi, it was really you? Enlighten us, inquiring minds want to know. Seriously, give us your version of the story.

Contact them yourself and you will know the rest of the story. Who designed what , who tuned the MXA test and which suspension business has a used car salesman for an operations manager.

Pat,
You stil believ all that? What that be the loser who got kicked off his own forum for spamming.? Anyway Look I'm sorry you never fit into our program, but you should stop slamming me for doing whats best for my team. Bottom line you did'nt make the cut, and we have never been anything but nice till you started with your hard feelings.

I'm not even going to begin to entian your BS as I have a much bigger target. Please get over your issues with me. Join GP-Racing and tune suspension with Gary. The world will be a much better place.

Best Regards,
Jer

I think it's time the GP thing stopped. Lets just say most of that crap was my fault. In all that BS and flagrant accusations, I overlooked one critical factor that I think would probably point to the very fact that Jer designed them. At the time I met Jer, I beleive he was having those pistons made locally, in fact he brought me by the shop that was making them one morning to check something out, but nobody was home at that hour. If GP had designed and was making those pistons it is highly likely that Rob would have had a CNC shop local to him doing it. Nothing was ever stolen by Jer from GP. The stuff was shared then, no longer is and Jer has made some improvements to his that I think were very beneficial. AND...if Rob did design them then maybe he should be getting the heat from PA about it?????

I spent some time involved with both outfits. Several factors surfaced during my time connected with GP that led me to decide I had obviously made a mistake in that circumstance. I'm not going to disclose this information publicly, as I have no real wish to be at odds with Rob. Things are quiet between us and unless somebody starts slinging mud they will forevermore stay that way. The whole ordeal there was just a mistake for me, and possibly for Rob as well. However, I walked away from there, and I have heard rumors that people were being told I was dropped. Highly untrue, I left on what I thought was somewhat respectable terms with him. At one point, realizing the differences between these two guys may have been my fault, I made an attempt to get them to reconcile. The only positive I received on that attempt was from Mr Wilkey. To me that showed some class. I actually got Jer to agree to call Rob and make an attempt to work things out. Rob declined, would not return the call. That was his choice, so for those wanting to continue to drag Jer through the mud about this crap, better hook up another leash in my opinion. Through that though I was able to realign freindship with Jer so something good did come of it all for me. I realized my mistake, spoke with him on civil terms and over time we began to get along again. I'm sure that should Rob or Gary wish to do so the same thing might happen. But thats pretty much up to them.

In many conversations with Jer years ago, It is obvious to me now where his idea came from with his designs. Simply looking at all approaches being used, he chose to experiment with smaller ports than PA was using on their POS unanodized shock piston. He incorporated a pocket. I'll dare anybody to design a piston at this moment that will not in some way resemble something currently available, even 10 years ago you might have had a challenge there. It's pretty safe to say that there is not much you can do with a shock piston that has not already been done. Jer latched onto Simons attributable approach of orificing, expanded the sizes a little bit for safety margin, used a 4 point system which theoretically can distribute load better than a 3 point design. I still have one of his earliest designs in my possession, and yeah, it could actually resemble a PA design, but it was also very different. There was far more thought involved in it, it was better designed and the quality was definitely better.

Stolen, borrowed, shared whatever...it don't matter because to the best of my knowledge you cannot patent a shock piston. Quay didn't "invent" squat, in terms of shock piston design, nor did Rob, Jer or anybody else. Noleen had incorporated the collar into their fork pistons before. And I'm not entirely sure on this but I beleive the Noleen design was taken from or bought from Simons.

What this is all about is what "concept" you choose to endorse. RT endorses a HUGE port design, Jer endorses a smaller port approach. Meada and Hendrickson and many others have excellent results with stock designs.

As a person, it is no secret that Jer and I had some disagreements between us, the GP thing withstanding. However I think both of us have realized that friends are better than enemies. I respect this guys work ethic and what he stands for. He demands quality work of his associates, and because of this he made me more aware of the need for attention to detail. That has stuck with me from the first day we met. Because of that, my work is now more detailed and exact. Mistakes happen to all of us, things break, come apart etc. Nobody is perfect, but these demands create a better quality approach.

I don't know much about the circumstances between Jer and Quay but I do know that he told me several years ago in converstion that he was threatened by him. This came up WAY before any of this other crap so I certainly have no reason to doubt it. And that...is not cool GQ in my opinion.

Wow, I am totally impressed Shocknut. Very well said and stated. If that doesn't put at least a few things to rest then there is a huge probability that nothing stated after this will. I would have to say that probably the biggest thing it makes CRYSTAL clear to me is that Jeremy (and yourself) are both honest, quality individuals who both have a lot of knowledge and passion for what you do. I think that translates into superb customer service, attention to detail and a very high quality of workmanship. This board has probably provided Jer with a small amount of work but I think it also could represent a HUGE liability IF he wasn't providing what people expected (or way more). Think about it, how many suspensions has he done for people who post on here (and I bet most don't know him from Adam). Jer lays it on the line by even being here IMHO. The thing is that he backs it all up and then some. I don't think I have ever seen him even tout his own company! Free advice out the wazzou! You're a class act in my book Jer!

Thanks Shocknut for some enlightenment!

thanks for the help and the fireworks show, guys. my stuff is in the hands of steve ruf at pro design. i like what you are saying, jeremy. as long as you are living like you are talking. and george- i don't know anything about you or what you've done so i will give you the benefit of the doubt, BUT if you are dishonest, no good, etc., it is not too late to change. there is not a much better feeling than doing good things for other people and putting their needs ahead of your own. life is much more enjoyable if you are not selfish and greedy.
