My friend is looking at an 04 KTM 250 EXC-G (4 stroke). Does anyone have anything bad to say about this bike. Bike is in excellent shape, guy figures approx. 50 hours on it. Valves were just checked, new battery, and carb was rejetted? Other than that, I can't give you anymore info. The guy is selling it for $3700 Canadian - Approx $3200 US. Good deal???? or a bike to stay away from!!!!!

Thanks all for your help,

Jamie

Jamie - It boils down to the individuals thoughts and what have you. My '02 works fine for me. If it's going to be run wide open a lot, it's going to be short lived. Other than the gearing, cylinder and head, it is the same as the bigger ones. Close to 6000 miles and 400 hours on mine now with no major problems. However, I use it, not abuse it.

The 250 exc is a slug compared to the 450 exc (and almost entirely different than the 250SXF). If the power is acceptable, it will be a great bike for your friend, as Inca attests.

Several of us with 520s have found (repeatedly) that the top end is good for ~10K miles and the trans for about ~15K (that's 15 thousand miles, not Kilometers for you foreign folk in Canada ;-). That's without ringing the snot out of it as the harder/higher you twist them the sooner the valves will go. Then again, I don't know many folk who can run a 520 WFO for long (excluding superheros like D Knight).
Since the 520, 450 and 250 exc motors are near identical, it would stand to reason the same applies.

Complete head rework, if you hunt around, runs about $350 which includes new valves, seats, machine work and so on. (US bucks)

The 04 250 4T is the same bike & same weight as the 450/525, so I would look for a 450 or 400 instead. The new 250 4T is lighter and has more power.

Thanks All!!! I forgot to mention that my friend is upgrading from a 2000 XR250R, so that being said, he is going to buy the KTM.
