rear rim

i have a dent measuring about 4-5 cm long in my rear rim and their is also a crack at the top of the dent. The machanic said this is ok and wont get worse and said he has mx bikes last for years like that. Is this true and will my rim hold up ok for the bush and small 30-40 foot jumps?

Take ot down and have the inside welded a bit. It probably won't hurt anything, just look bad. Just time your jumps so that part of the rim doesn't hit the ground first!:)
