I have removed many races using that procedure. I usually get them after the customer has butchered the bearing bosses with a punch or chisel and has given up all hope of ever getting the race out. The weld shrinks them enough that they fall right out.
That is a cool trick. We have a guy at work that can use a torch to straighten just about anything. It's pretty amazing to watch. Heat can be you friend for sure. :)
well took it to the machinist and he said give him 15 min so i went looking at the new 4 strokes ( not a fan ) 10 min later he comes out holding the three races in his hand the best thing is he done it for free so i went and picked up the bearings put them in and perfect
