I just recently bruised the heck out of my ribs on the left side and separated/dislocated one in the back. I did this on a ride at the track last Sunday. I was following this guy a little too closely, and when he got in a rut after a sharp turn following a small downhil, he fell over, leaving me w/the lovely choice of using him and his bike as a ramp/speed bump or dumping it. Seeing as how this wasn't a race(open ride day) and that I'm not that kinda guy, I bailed off to the side after grabbing a hand/footfull of brake. Well, I landed on my left shoulder, compressing the ribs on that side. To say it's uncomfortable is putting it lightly. Anyway, I found that you really should follow dr.'s advice and not ride for a bit. Went out for a little bit on this small track and today I'm paying for it. Is there anything you can do besides putting up the bike for a couple of weeks? Also, how many others out there have ridden injured when they didn't need to, just to ride?

Maybe...but I'm not dumb enough :p to risk hurting myself worse than I already am.It may not big deal to you to take the risk, but I have other things to worry about more than staying off my bike for 3 or 4 weeks.I played 2 quarters with the 2 bones in my thumb broken off, but that is different I didn't know it was broke I thought I just had jammed it.Its really just up to you if you want to take the risk and ride in pain or not.It would sure probably heal faster staying off the bike.Whats only 2 weeks without riding?Nothing to me.Plus when you are healed up you will want to ride really bad or the time you are out to get your bike really really clean just to get it dirty again.Just my 2 cents.:scream:

Your ribs protect some pretty vital organs

I broke a few ribs this past spring, almost 7 weeks of pure agony. I've never felt anything that hurt so bad. I also took a handlebar to the spleen and that was sore too. I wouldn't risk another get off until you have time to heal cause I promise you, you don't want to break a rib. It took me 15 minutes to get into bed for several weeks and just about the time you think you're getting better you sneeze or cough and it starts all over again not to mention should you get constipated:eek:

I broke a rib on my right side last year at the track and for those who have broken a rib, it hurts like hell. I wrapped a bandage around my ribs and rode the next week. The only downfall about riding with an already broken rib is you have a greater chance of puncturing a lung if you fall again, so don't fall!! I think the older I get the longer it takes to get back on due to the pain.
