Oh Yeah, I believe that David Pingree wrote last month's Racer-X colum on riding with out health insurance. Too big a risk not to have the proper equipment and insurance...

RM_guy - Why not donate the proceeds of this summers DYDR Poker Run to the Wayne Ryerson Fund?

It may not be much, but every little bit helps. This may also help get the ball rolling on this ride.

Absolutlely agree. Some kind of insurance is crucial. It saved me about 68,000 dollars when I broke both my legs and I am still recovering financially from that ( a couple years ago). Wish Wayne all the best and admire his go-forward attitude.

Interesting point on the health insurance. As being a recent self employed person searching for good insurance, we've found a few that definately rule you out or exclude you completely if you own any type of Motorcycle. This came as a complete shock to me.

I have a son who has broken numerous bones, all in the freakiest of ways. Example: He playes hockey but tripped getting on rink and fell and broke his arm :/ So I can appreciate how much even a simple thing like that can cost. Can't imagine something as disasterous as what happened.

He's in our prayers as well.

Everyone should check their Life Insurance policies.
There are few companies that will settle claims when death results from injuries received during riding or racing motorcycles.

The topic of insurance hit home. Health insurance is cheap. Unless you have some sort of pre-existing condition that prevents you from qualifying, you should have it. Here in CA, where it can be really expensive, a single guy under 30 can get an inexpensive policy for about $40/month, that won't exclude motorcycle related injuries. A 30 y/o w/ family can get the same policy for $190/month. This isn't cheapo stuff, either. And the more people that are insured, the lower the insurance will cost. My point is: it's one of the first things you should figure into your monthly budget, along with life insurance. You've all seen those commercials on tv or heard them on the radio- A 40 y/o male can get $250k of life insurance for $25 a month or something like that. No bread winner should be without it. Next up is disability income protection. What happens when you end up in the hospital like Wayne? Who's gonna pay the bills?

OK, off the box now. :) BTW- card sent.
