Me and some friends were out riding sunday afternoon on the gasline. I was riding my first and only
bike, an XR200 (wich i am to big for). One of my friends had just bought a 96' KX250. He let me
take it for a spin and i have to admit that that thing is AWESOME. It has WAY more power than my
200  I was riding that thing better than he was. Anyways, i was wondering how much a mid to
late 90's 250 would run me? Im mainly looking at CR's and KX because ive heard good things about
them. Are there any years i should avoid??

Help is greatly appreciated :worship:
oh ya im almost 17 150lbs and 6ft tall. im not weak either

There is nothing quite like the feeling of a good running two stroke motorcycle. In my area a person can get a halfway decent 250, in the age group your talking about, for 1750.00 to 2000.00.

Dont be too quick to buy the first one you see. The bikes that have been raced hard dont sell for a lot less than the guy who bought one, became scared, and parked it. I watched a friend do this two years ago. His 2002 KX 250 that he paid 5500.00 for was sold for 3700.00. The bike had 1 1/2 tanks of fuel ran through it.

I like the Honda CR's as well. I would not pass up a 97-98 KX 250 either.

I bought the 1997 YZ 250. Not because it was the best bike, but because the example I found had the stock tires on it. Riding time amounted to a few hours.

Don't forget the RM's. Seriously, the 1997+ RM's ripped and Suzuki's usually don't pull in top dollar. I see a lot of circa 1997's going for just $1500 on ebay. 1996's were also very good, but the powervalves were prone to glitch out a little. That's why I would stick to a 1997 or up.

Not sure if you are interested in 125's, but they are even less money and if you don't mind clutchin a lot they are also very fast. A friend just sold his 1997 CR125 for $1500.

I would not spend over $1500 though since you should be able to find a very nice 125 or 250 for that price.

I picked up an Ebay special 95 KX250 for $1000. Excellent bike, needed a little work though nothing insurmountable. I love the mid range on it :yeehaw: . My brother has a 97 CR250, and his is all top end power which coming off a 4-stroke(me) was difficult to adjust to. I still can't ride his bike any faster than my KX.

To be fair, the last YZ250 I rode was air cooled so I can't draw comparisons to the YZ/RM's at all

I'm not set on any bikes but look at the maintenance end of the bike. Which one is easiest to maintain? No they are not all the same. What about the RM that required you to split the case to repair the waterpump! Yamaha YZ250 with the front brake hose that would require a bank loan to purchase... I think that was an 89 or 90! Good luck shop around...

If you consider mainenance...I'm not sure you can beat the XR200 that you are currently riding! Those things are brutes.

Oh, and Cycletrader definitely sells bikes. But for one picture, for one month run you have to pay like $60-$70!?!!!? And Ebay is a cool $25-$30 anymore. That's why I posted my RM for sale in the local classifieds first for $7.
