When I bought my turbine core II I thought it had repacking direction, but they've been long lost. I slid the can off the pipe and pulled the packing right out, but a second section was left deep in the pipe. Not realizing how the thing is made (first repack) I tore the whole silencer apart. (after much trouble, only to realize I could have hooked the remaining packing out).

When I put the thing back together, do I need to cut a seperate two inch piece to fit around the beginning of the turbine, or just wrap the perferated tube on the bike, and cram the can back over it.

Do any parts need to be siliconed together at assembly?

What size are the rivets I needlessly drilled out.

CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mnnthbx,
I don't know the answer to your question, as I have yet to repack my turbine core II and I am interested in what answers you will receive. But, I've got to tell you, when I read your post and got to the last line, I had a real good laugh. I can't tell you how many times I've taken things apart, (more than they needed to be) then take a week to figger out how it all goes back together. Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not the only one who does this sort of thing!

Hey!
I found my origional installation instructions for my turbinecore II. Here is what is says about repacking:
To repack the silencer remove the three screws from the front of the silencer using a 4mm allen wrench. Do not remove the rear endcap. Hold the stinger in one hand with it pointing down, and gently tap the aluminum bracket on a wood block in a downward motion to slip out the inner core assembly from the canister. Be careful not to damage the silencer. Unwrap the packng from the core and discard. Using a wire brush, clean the perforated core and do a final wipe down with contact cleaner. Wrap the core with new FMF 2-stroke packing and secure with a strip of masking tape. Do not pack too tightly, as this will hamper performance. Before re-installing inner core assembly, apply a thin layer of hi-temp silicon on the front end cap, where the aluminum canister slips over. Slip inner core assembly into canister making sure that it fully seats in the rear endcap. Re-install the allen screws until snug or tighten 1/4 turn after the scrw make contact with the canister.

mnnthbx,

don't feel too bad - you are not the first person to take the silencer apart more than "required". :( I did the same thing my first time and then realized how easy it could have been. Live and learn. You will not make that mistake again. amybe many more mistakes - but not that mistake.

I take mine completely apart

Hit it with the blow torch 'til it quits smokin'

Brush all the burnt carbon off with a wire brush

Place the turbine core in about half way and place the perforated piece inside of it so it's sticking out just enough to stuff large handfulls of Silent Sport down and around 'er. When I get 'er full I put some new rivets in and button it all up
