The song you're embarrassed to like . . .

I went back and looked through some of the stuff I have on Morpheus all 600+ songs and found that I have Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. Was I hoping to use it as a makeout song...ha I wish. Other possibly embarising things I might have include Dan Seals, Jefferson Starship, Don Williams, Jerry Reed(theme from smokey and the bandit:)), lots of Journey, and other stuff that I'm not ready to divulge yet. Maybe tommorrow. Some of this stuff is older than me. I am a HUGE John Mellencamp fan but there is nothing embarrising about that, hes a legend. As far as country go I have about 50 CD's and all but like 5 are country.

" Eastbound and down loaded up and truckin' we gonna do what they say can't be done "

Hey, what's embarrassing about that? I just got finished making my new Bee Gees CD. I still listen to those guys!

While there has been plenty of wretched music mentioned, there are bands NOBODY would admit liking, even from behind the anonymity of a keyboard.

Just for example (not admitting anything here):

Captain & Tennille
The Carpenters
Culture Club

Edited to add Billy Ray Cyrus

And that's just the letter C! Nobody admits liking them, but somebody bought those albums.

The first time I met ya
It felt like I had never loved before
it broke my heart
when you walked out the door, told myself
I ain't never ever gonna love no more !

Guilty by LIME, anybody out there who was into Lime in the 80's, Canadian dance music by Denis lepage and Lime - man I loved that stuff, have their greatest hits album - don't know weather to be embarrassed or proud - definitely nostalgic !

Now if you really want to shake your head, how about Kajagoogoo, Adam and the ants, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, or Frankie goes to Hollywood !?

Had 'em all! :) Those guys were all so avant garde back in the day. Now they all seem incredibly ordinary. Sputnik would still be classified as rather odd. Whatever happened to Cabaret Voltaire?

Sawblade--Bust A Move is a classic. Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers played bass on that cut. Just TRY not to shake your ass when it's on.

The first time I heard Junior Brown, I thought it was a joke. I listened to him a few times at a bud's house, and now I like his stuff. VERY high production values.

dirt bike dave...Culture Club jams. If you can get past the freakshow presentation, the music is terrific. And the Carpenters...incredible talent, tragic story.

Captain and Tenille? AAAACK! Can you say Muskrat Love ?

IDkTm, the whole Wicked Game CD is excellent.

What country do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of older stuff like Hank Jr., Willie Nelson, and Charlie Daniels. But, I also really like George Strait, Brad Paisley, and Toby Keith. Chad Brock is one of my favorites.

Linkin Park is okay but they are just a 311 rip off. Puddle of Mudd's singer is from KC and the whole band used to be. They were jerk-offs. Wes, this singer, did nothing but act like a fool on stage and off. It makes it hard to like his music. And as far as Creed goes, I said I liked them. I love them! They are one of the best bands around IMO. I just said that it was uncool to like them. Everytime I mention them to my musician pals, I get crap for it.

Big Lou and I were talking last night during a wicked game of Supercross Circuit and I was reminded of the band that I worshiped in high school.......

.....The Cure.
Yikes! Yes, I was into the wild haired, make-up wearing, melencholy, kings of self loathing.

OK, I'll admit it. Every single time I hear Alan Jackson do that old Nate Stuckey tune, Pop A Top, it puts a great ol' big smile on my stinkin' ol' man scruffy toofless face.:)

I find Kid Rock to be a pleasant diversion now and then...

Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of there! :p

Linkin Park is okay but they are just a 311 rip off.

What, are you saying that in both cases there is a blond white guy singing, and another guy rapping? Thats about the only similarities I found. Seriously, tell me one song by Linkin Park that, when you first heard it you said to yourself, "hey, this sounds like 311!"

Anyway....Yeah, there has been a lot of music mentioned worth being embarrased about. I'm trying to think hard, but I really couldn't come up with anything that I ashamed to admit I like. However, there is one band that I'm like, and sometimes I feel a little weird about listening to....

Okay, you have my respect because you like Rammstein.....BUT, let me name the similarities....
2 punk kid singers, one sings one raps
heavy music, whiney vocals, cheesy rap
DJ
Guitarists that wear headphones on stage
Simple guitar riffs over nice drum beats
I am not saying that they are a carbon copy, they just seem very unoriginal to me. Like all the bands that bought 7 string guitars and dropped the B to an A and tried to sound like Korn a few years back.

For every break through band, there are 50 bands trying to be just like them. Take the band Ubastank for example. The first time I heard them, I thought I was listening to the new Incubus. Music is probably the one thing that I am more passionate about than motorcycles so I don't pass judgement on a band without good reason. Except for this.....Kid Rock really sucks.

Certainly plenty of bad music mentioned here. I think I feel the worst for the guy that likes the Wham song (who ever it was). To add to having some really bad music he got caught doing something funny in a washroom that got him arrested (so the rumor is anyway).

XRP, B-52's Love shack is a timeless classic. Totally contagous, and you can't help singing to it.

I did'nt like the song... I think it's by Helen Reddy.... but I like the phrase
" It's so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain!"

My unadmitted favorite. Bon Jovi- "I'm a cowboy" especially after seeing the video.

But this is messed up, I asked my son to stop listening to some of his music, and he said I should listen to the words before condeming it. and now I admit ...uh... I like EMINEM and 311!!!

I wanna know who here listened to NKOTB. I know there's one of you closet freaks out there. I'm guilty of secretly not hating the Backstreet Boys as much as I vehemently insist I do. And I secretly don't really wanna kick their a**es, nor do I really think they're bedtime buddies as I always joke about. My nephew has their CD & plays it over and over and over, just one song, "you are my fire". Otherwise, I'm a tough, tough man and I once ate a rusted Buick for lunch.

speaking of all this music, how many Gigs are you guys holding on your hard drive? I'm at 5.16GB, 1052 songs total, thanks to Audiogalaxy still going (though not as strong lately).

George Michael did get arrested for exposing himself in a public restroom in London, no rumor there.

Still, I was 16 when Wham hit the music scene, and got 'The Final' when they split up, great CD, my brother stole it, and have been unable to replace it :(

Wake me up before you go go :) that is funny, gotta listen to 'Wham Bam, I am your man' to realy enjoy WHAM !

or Club Tropicana drinks are freeee, fun and sunshine, theeereas enough for everyone, all that's missing is the seeeeea

or How about, Bad Boys stick together, are never sad boys ... good guys, they made the rules for fools, so get wise

BTW, George Michael = Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (close enough I think) no wonder he sounds Greek :) ! :silly:

I've got a little over 2 Gigs worth of songs I think. Its right about 640 files. There would be more but I keep filling the hard drive and having to get rid of some. Time for a new CPU.

Zio-You need morpheus. I tried audiogalaxy for a while, but Morpheus is far superior. As good as Napster was, maybe better.

Actually that song was gag me sappy bad.

I still listen to the first Bon Jovi...and that's embarrasing.

Escape--The Pina Colada Song

If you like pina coladas
and taking walks in the rain
if you're not into health food
and are into champaigne
if you like making love at midnight
in the dunes of the cape
I'm the lover you've looked for
lets meet and plan our escape.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Audiogalaxy is starting to block songs now. However, I actually prefer their format to Napster. I can que up as many songs as I want to download, right before I go home for the night, and when I come back to work the next morning, it's all done for me! Maybe I just never learned how to use Napster correctly.
