'84 KDX 80 Started the dirt bike addiction. After wrapping it around the neighbors tree, I found how much fun it could be!

'86 Honda Spree (Yippee!) Jumped my first double on this on a BMX track.

'84 KX125 Fully modified for a pro before I got it. Ported, head milled, PSI pipe, etc... Eye opening experience to what Real power was at 15. First ride I learned the importance of throttle control in the whoops. It got a new set of plastic after that first ride. I raced MX with this bike for 2 years till I cartwheeled down a REAL steep hill at Magic Mt. Race Park in the Adirondacks, NY. (I think that was the name of the place). Either way, bent the forks, frame, triple clamps. What a mess. Sold it to a guy who said "Why do I need to pre-mix the gas?" I knew he would be the right owner for it.

'85 KX125 I raced this all over for another year until it got stolen. Short ver of long story. tried to sell it to buy a 250. Bad check. (Never take a check for a bike sale. I was a teenager at that point with no real experience exhanging money). I got teh bike back, but it was thrashed beyond recognition. FUBAR. Moron who stole painted it camouflage. Sold it very cheap, beleive me. Got married. 12 years later, got my next new ride.

'89 KX125 for $700.00. I spent 1 1\2 years and $1200.00 rebuilding it. Got it done and my wife buys me a new ride. I think she saw how bad and determined I wanted to race again. Sold this ride to Awilson40, who seems to be enjoying it when he not injuriing himself.

2001 KX250 Yippeee. I'm back! Thanks wife for helping me aquire this new ride! It takes a little (ALOT!) of getting used to. So much more power than the old rides, it's hard to beleive. We'll see where we end up with this one.

HOly Cow Batman!!

ALL those posts and not as much as ONE MAICO! SHAME!SHAME!
then i read where a guy says his 465 was better no matter what rick sieman says!@ those be fightin words!!!! HA!
my 1981 490 just loved to eat those little 465/s for lunch!

anyway

ok so here is my list
year 1972 first bike
1968 Suzuki 150 full body road bike
1972 TS 125 Suzuki
1975 Kx 125 (had 3 so to keep one motor together)
1977 RM 125 First new Bike
1978 400 MAico boy would this thing turn
1980 450 Maico boy would this thing NOT turn!
1981 490 MAico no question the absolute best motorcycle at that time, it made me the rider i am (good or bad) LOL
1982 Maico 490 screwed up a good motor for decent suspension for its time
1983-1984 Sponsored by CAN HAM! LOL 2-250's 2-500's both years. 83's were somewhat proto types. fast as heck, rode like a sawhorse with wheels.
1985 M Star Road this bike 85-90 Lots of time on this old girl
1990 Maico, was one of the few Blue Maicos the made the trek across the pond. Good bike, was dated and never up to speed with new teck stuff at the time.
then i met AJ, Bill, Doug, and Greg from Service Honda and became a believer.
1995 cr 500
1996 cr 500

2002 Honda Rubicon 500
2000 Honda 450 es Foreman
1976 Husky 250

I will let AJ tell you my opinion about honda in 1995, but now I of course really enjoy the fact that Hondas don't have any competition when it comes to building motorcycles, they really are bullit proof.

road bikes
1975? 360 honda
1977 KZ 650 Kaw
1981 GS 1100E Suzuki
I dropped having road bikes simply because I couldn't stop looking at curbs as berms and RR crossings as tabletops. To many run in's with the law so it was decided to stop the road bike stuff. Some day i may return, hmmmmm look at that corner wonder if i could straighten it out with a little wheelie here and hit the brake.........na it will be awhile.

wardy :bang:

some of the bikes can be viewed on my personal page its not done but will give ya and idea.

Wardy--I wanna have a beer or 2 with ya!

I would have given my left nut at the tender age of 15 for a 1981 Maico 490. They were just legend around here. What, in particular, was so ahead of its time for that bike--or moreover, what did you like so much about it?

TORQUE~!~~~~!

simply the absolute best motor in its day and they have tried to copy it ever since! From what a friend of mine tells me who still owns a 81 490 and has a 520 thumper (bob pistole owner of sunset ridge) he says that the old bike runs as close to a thumper as any two stroke but with the top end horsepower!

ALL i remember is I would pull up on a straightaway alongside a 465 wound tight, look over and then just give it the rest of the throttle and LEAVE!

it was like having a 500 when everyone else was on 250's!

LOL kinda like riding a vet class now with my A/F!

anyway i had a great year that year racing that bike. some day i will own anohter one of those just "because"

you know its to bad but that motor in the picture is the same looking as my 1985, and 1990 maicos. It prolly would be a biatch to kick start!

same power valve set up which works for like three weeks.

same water pump which goes thru bearings like monthly.

but the bike still looks cool and how would that beast handle with different tires on a big out door track.?

LOL

Here's my list:
1974 Suzuki ?250 Street/Trail
1977 Suzuki JR50
1980 Yamaha YZ50
1985 Suzuki RM125
1986 Yamaha IT200

1992 Honda CBR600
1992 Honda CR250
1993 Honda CBR900RR
1993 Honda CR250

2002 Suzuki GSX-R1000(The only bike that ever really scared me)
2003 Gas Gas EC300DE
2003 Kawasaki KX250

Man that brings back memories. I can remember riding that '74? Suzuki 250(my dad's bike that I inherited)when I was 10. I'd roll it out of the garage, lean it against the wall, kick it 'til it surrendered, lean it away from the wall, dump the clutch, and away I went. My feet barely reached the pegs, let alone the ground. Dismounting the bike was basically the above procedure in reverse. Boy, a kid sure could have alot of fun before they invented safety ;).
