A little intorduction is in order I thought.

The group called Heartland Spodes is a group of riders from four states, Texas, Oklahoma,Arkansas,Kansas. As our name implies our riding abilities are not as great as our abilities to post about our adventures on DRN.

Our group got it's unofficial beginning at DW01when five of us camped together.

All of us are weekend warriors. Occupations include a surveyor, DEQ?? (water quality guru), alarm specialist,2 Walmart big wigs, student, UPS Computer Expert, Assistant Principal, etc.

Our riding expertise is varied. We have MX547 a truely fast mx guy, craig_enid, Lorin, justql seasoned enduro riders, bswift experience in all areas (Our most versatile rider.) We all will ride in almost any terrain. Yes, MX547 has raced an enduro, and the woods guys will venture onto an mx track.

Our experience goes from a few rides (violetSp) to decades for others.

Our unofficial membership list includes(not limited to)

bswift
craig_enid
Oldmaiconut
OKKXer
Lorin

I have riden with you guys and a Motley Crew you are. No one ran over me, but the chance was there (thanks fellas, and ladies...er.. lady, J/K Lorin :-) ) After I crashed I did see that "use em for traction" look in Bswifts eyes. I always enjoy those who are you type threads. Its interesting to see the diversity of backgrounds.

Sorry for invation.

Carry on.

Well, there is MikeOK and 99CR125OK. DavTys and Lonnie. I think we can include Smitty with us as well, even though we just rode at the same place with him once.

I guess us Texas Panhandlians don't count

Dan, I guess you, me and Derek need some tire tracks of honor to make the in crowd ;)

Let's hope DW02 is at Cooperland, then we can show everyone who are the Heartland Spodes.

BTW, I am 36, an intermediate Spode who likes to ride trails, do not race - work for a company out of Virginia as a Computer Consultant - programmer: UNIX/INFORMIX/VB/Crystal

I dought that I would be able to make many events, but I will keep my eyes pealed for a ride this spring. I have been extreamly busy with the "hobby" lately and not sure that I can gain many more passes. I also have family type travel stuff coming up in April and May. I'd love to give Oklahoma a try even though its just O.K. and all.

Well can an ex-Enid Okie turned Texan join this famous group?? Unforunately I work weekends, BUT I can see a few Enduro's in the future not to mention the upcoming spodefest in Muenster.
Is Stillwater still a great place? It used to be great - I spent alot of hours there in the early 80's. Hopefully the Spodefest will be held there SOON!

Hey, the word Director in my title sounds more important then it really is. I'm just another poor slob trying to make it through the day! ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the YZ and me the first to play dodge bike with Bswift? Think I'll run to Wal-Mart and pick up a bag of cedar shavings.

Bio stuff:
I've been into bikes since 1978. Started out on a TM 75 Suzuki. My dad still has the old girl setting behind the planter at the farm in Kansas. MX is my forte, but will venture into the woods for a good time with the rest of the Heartland Spodes. Took a few years off from riding in the mid 90's to focus on the career, got back into riding 3 years ago. MX547 pestered me most of last year to race again. I finally showed at one of the last race of the year and had a great time. It was my first race in over 10 year. I try to ride most Sundays at my local track, but as you know life doesn't let us ride as much as we like. Guess I'll keep driving to the MO line once a week to buy lotto tickets in hopes that I then could ride more!

Riding goals for this year: Ride more, duh! :aj: Make it to Dirtweek, and be able to keep up with MX547!

Well, I guess I'm the club's most versatile crasher:confused: . I started riding in the early seventies. Grew up riding with a few MX racers but was forbidden to race.:( Learn to ride on a 90cc Kawi street bike on dirt(note:street tires on dirt=slick). Moved up to a Yami DT125 and then a 78 YZ250. Got a 81 Seca 750 and didn't see a trail again until 1989. Got a KDX and was hooked. Went thru the Big "D" in 91 and was out of the sport due to finances until '99. Found DRN and have permenant dirt on the brain. I did my first H/S in 2000, my first MX and Enduro in 2001.
The Heartland Spodes have been the best group to ride with that I have ever found. Just don't expose a weakness to them, they will not let you live it down. We seem to all ways have a great time when we get together to ride so if you get a chance to join us, bring it on. We are due for another day at the track so if your a MX'r don't let us woods guys scare you off.
Besides, I'm only a National Champion in my own mind.;) :aj:

That would probably be one of those living in the big house in McCallister:o

I've only met a few of the heartland spodes, but they really seem like a great bunch!

My background: started riding at about eight on a Gemini 50, moved to a early 70's stripped Honda SL125, then to a '76 YZ250, then a '83 YZ125 sold it at age sixteen, got into racing R/C cars for about 12 years but my wife didn't like the all day, every weekend races, not to mention the three day trips to the nationals and some of bigger races. That brings me to two years ago, when I bought a used '99 CR125. Had it for a little less than a year before I realized I was too big for a 125 and got my 250. Been having a blast since coming back to dirt bikes! I like MX more than woods, as long as it's not insane stuff. But the most important thing is just riding.

I'm looking forward to more rides with the heartland spodes.

BSwift, I saw where you said you had a 78 YZ 250. That was the last gen-u-wine brand new dirt bike I owned. I LOVED it. Rode it in the California desert and MX at Saddleback park. I'm looking for another one!!!

78 YZ250, first motor I blew up! Man would that bike rip. Raw power! I weighed 105 lbs and the bike didn't even know I was on it. Wish I hadn't sold it. The bike was just plain scary.:scream:

Dmills, if we don't have a serious OCCRA guy in the ranks, you're it. If we have one, we need another!
Keep on the lookout for any race or fun ride so you can get the obligate 'run-over' fullfilled.....
I'm doing the Lone Star enduro, this Sunday, check the roll call post.

I haven't raced OCCRA in over a year.
I've barely ridden my scooter in over a year.
However, I think I still remember how.
Is being run over an option for me? If it is, I'd rather not.
