I don't know if anyone is a Flat Track fan, however, last night we lost a very special rider---Will Davis. He was killed in Sedalia, Missouri--a 1/2 mile track. Several riders went down and Will lost his life.

Flat Track will definitely miss him, as he was one of the best!!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very upsetting time. Godspeed, Will---you will be dearly missed!

Very sad news............

:(
Anne, Thanks for the post. I am a big fan of Will's and am completely floored by the news of his passing.
I saw Andy Tresser go down in Rapid City a few years ago.
We have been losing to many great riders.
Here is another NEWS RELEASE on Will's passing.

Read this yesterday on the flattrack page. Couldn't believe it. Will was a true professional in every respect of his life. A family man, a gentleman and one of a handful of people that could win a Grand National event on any given day. He gave much of his time to others.

The last couple of years has not been good for the flattrack community as we have lost many of our young warriors. God must be putting one heck of a main event together up there.

Godspeed Will.

I'm still shocked over the news. Dirt track has always been a brutally violent sport, but Will Davis would've been the last rider I expected to see go down. He was always bullet fast, but an incredibly safe and clean racer. The guy never crashed and was always smooth and intelligent on the track. Did I say that he was fast? Probably the best groove-track half-mile racer in the history of the sport, just a master at those clay stock car half-miles. Off the track, he was as nice as they come, a true gentleman and the best possible ambassador for motorcycle racing. The dirt track community can't afford to lose Will Davis. He was a true class act, and my heart goes out to his wife Rhonda and son, Cole.

Dirt track has suffered many losses in recent years, and it seems to be the nature of the sport that I love. It is and always has been too dangerous. The speeds are frightenly high, and unlike road racing, there are no run-off areas or escape lanes. The racing is always tight and fast, and there is precious little room for error. Those 320-pound XR750s become lethal weapons at 100 mph.

Ol 89er is right, there must be a heckuva main event lineup in the sky. I can see all the great deceased ones now, sliding sideways on a beautifully-groomed cushion half-mile...Will Davis, Davey Camlin, Ricky Graham, Rodney Farris, Andy Tresser, Ted Boody, Willie Crabbe, Toby Jorgensen, Darrel Davis, Jay Ridgeway, Steve Rasmussen, Randy Turbett, Joel Green, Kenny Pressgrove, Mike Escue, Mike Matthews, Steve Dallefield and so on.

Very sad indeed. If anyone caught the AMA roadrace from Pike Peak, CO, Nicky Hayden dedicated his win to WIll and did a backward victory lap in his memory.

A great loss to racing.
