I am looking add to replace my KDX220 with something a bit... well... "nicer" :] I'm interested in the 200, 250, and 300 EXC/MXC's and, this being California, am limited to 2002 and older model years. I guess I am just curious how these model years were for these bikes, especially if there are any that I should steer clear of. I try to keep maintainence to a minimum, so reliability is very important for me.

I look forward to growing my small stable of one KDX220 and one YZ125, hopefully splitting the difference between the two bikes. And yes, I do fine riding the 125 on trails - most of the riding in Southern California is pretty easy and not very technical when compared with what I learned on (Rocky mountains) - but the 125 can be BRUTAL (revalved SX suspension for a person heavier than me) sometimes. Handles like a surgeon's scalpel though...

I have an '01 250EXC that I bought 18 months ago. I did a lot of research on this board and KTM Talk deciding what year used 250 to buy as I couldn't justify buying new. I came from a 200EXC (still have for my son) and wanted the longer, roomier frame of the 250/300s. I learned that the engine of the 01 250EXC was preferred by many over the 2000,'03,'04 because it wasn't so numb. I love the engine, the clear gas tank and just the size of the bike for me. I think if you look the '01s and '02s are pretty popular at least for the 250s and 300s. Good Luck.
