Healthcare is a totally different subject. You pay for your healthcare, and those that can't afford to pay with your outrageous taxes.and I pay for mine by way of medical insurance. I don't believe in socialized medicine, that's another story.

CanadianRider, congrats on the hockey game, and to think it was
cap'n Joe of my beloved Avs that drove the stake through my heart, oh well. Guess we'll have to bet on the baseball in the summer games? (probably hear from Cuba on that one). Don't even get me started on healthcare insurance, oh well at least it,s warm down here, went riding yesterday in just a jersey, no jacket(hey we take our victorys where we can!) :think

No disrespect meant here, but Okie why has this thread not been deleted?

Last week, the statement was made perfectly clear-no political discussions. Why are you still letting this one slide? Consistency man, consistency...

Re. Nobody wants to live there

I know this was said in jest, but unfortunately we are one of the most immigrated countries, if not the most, and I'm not saying this is a good thing, I think we may be growing a little to fast for our own good:mad:

You guys have got to try a little winter riding, no heat, dirt, bugs, plus its a blast on ice

There is low class and there is no class the american womans hockey team demonstrated the later.
As an American married to a Canadian living in Mexico we are all basically North Americans take a look at a map. The only thing seperating us is an imaginary line drawn in the dirt.
Screw the olympics, what a joke bring on MXDN then lets see who has bragging rights...... oops I guess that is France right now. How the hell did ice skating ever get in here anyway?????

Slideways those are really good points, Maybe it goes back to Elk's statement, maybe that "flag info" should not have leaked out, it still would have been wrong, but how did it leak out anyways?:think And should have it leaked out?

I saw a news clip on CNN about American and Canandian troops watching the game together in Afganistan.

There was plenty of friendly jousting, and when the game was over, they all went back to their posts, together.

ps, I believe the ONLY Canadian citizen that would go to the US for medicare is for an MRI and that's it.

Guess you haven't used it lately 'eh? or maybe it's different on the left coast, but out here it downright stinks! In fact, it would be one of the reasons I would consider moving south.

Last night after I put my kids to bed I sat down and watched the closing ceremonies and sports channels whose commentators helped put this victory into perspective. It's been 50 years. To the day.
But now our pros are playing their pros so there won't be a gap like that again.
I didn't think we would win... I was sure we would out-play the US team but I'm Toronto Maple Leafs fan and therefore a pessimist. I thought Richter would be too hot...
I'm sorry that someone has to lose, but we felt that way in '98 and know what it's like.
It's true that we don't have the largest, most highly-equipped Armed Forces in the world and most of us are very thankfull that the Americans are there to cover our asses. I personally think we're more effective as peace-keepers, referees if you like.
When we travel throughout the world we are generally received warmly and when worn, the Maple Leaf can open doors and bring assistance. I very much like being Canadian.
If memory serves me correctly, the United Nations has voted Canada as having the highest standard of living for the last 5 or so years. (don't quote me but it's something to that effect)
Being economic partners allows us the standard of living we have..mutually beneficial, just not to the same degree for the Americans.
We would like to live in a warmer climate but instead have hard winters and it gives us some measure of bragging rights.
Finally, when I went to bed last night I stopped to hug my kids and kiss them goodnight and fell asleep with a :) on my face knowing that gold for the men and women of Canada meant that all is right in the world. :p
The rest of the world is catching up or has already done so to Canadian talent. In the future the only thing that will separate us from them is heart. I believe they cannot have the heart towards Hockey that we do. We are Canada and Hockey is ours.

We are Canada and Hockey is ours.
No doubt.

Good post by the way. I've got to admit to never being aa hockey fan, it's one of those "I have too many sports already" things. I also have to admit that even though some countries have always fielded "pro" players in virtually all sports, I prefer the days of true NON pro's. The USA beating Russia so many years ago was SOOO sweet. Now, it means nothing... a bunch of pro's playing. Whoopie, I can see that on any given weekend. Yes, I was also dissapointed to see it happen to basketball. I'd much rather see kids beat pro's in some wild upset. Example; anyone against the Cuban boxers in years past.

Some of the sports in the Olympics are polluted. It's a shame.

When they let the pros into Curling, then I'm really gonna get jaded. :silly:
