D-16 is currently using method B.

From the D-16 Enduro Chairman...

I would like to change D16 for 2008 to method A with the riders support of course. I have slowly come like the D17 way of scoring as it is so much harder for a rider to make up points on another rider with method B. Plus it is much easier for the Ref to assign points at large events like Roselawn or Leaf River.

Option A is the only way to go !!! It makes you ride for and earn every point that you recieve...Being a D.17 rider I was always taught to get up from that crash, fix that bike, and put up with the pain to earn that extra point..You never know when it might count..I'm not sure about you guys but I would hate to win a championship knowing that I was last place at EVERY race I attended

Plan B is the only one that makes sense. D14 points should only be determined by comparison with other D14 Members. MSU currently has a 4-0 record in football but could end up last in the Big Ten because they have only beat NON-LEAGUE opponents. U-M lost 2 games but could end up league champs for the same reason. Victories against league members (fellow district members) are the only ones that count.
Great comparison! Since college football makes so much sense, the same only makes sense for enduro!

I Suggest Plan C

Dear Mr smit Doggy Dog....aka....can of worm opener

May I suggest plan C..........plan C is where you (smit doggy dog) create a program to figure out what the points would be in plan A and B and compare the two. My "un educated guess" is that the point standings will be nearly identical :)

An educated guess would tell you that the placement ordering would be close, but not necessarily the same, and the points spread would be greater and a little less predicable. Might make the point standings a little more interesting with each event!

But would either method cause you to quit the sport?

I wasn't looking for an educated guess, I was looking for the facts

Is the program and results do-able for YTD?.....because if the subject is going to be brought up for discussion, it would only make sense.

To answer your question if someone would quit due to a different way of keeping points....anything is possible, but that isn't my question

I am simply wondering if you could do the hypothetical points for both ways?

Thanks for keeping points. Its a thankless job unfortunately!

Heck, I bet you can even belt out a few songs at the camp fire!

I'm jealous... :fft:

It's very unlikely I'll have the time to do this before the awards banquet.... But will make it a point to do it before the December meeting.

If the premise behind each method is well understood, reviewing a "hypothetical" point standings based on our '07 events shouldn't play a huge role in which method you prefer... unless riders just want to see under which method they would have benefited the most. I'd agree, however, that it'd be interesting to see the actual points differences, and how much (or even if) it affected overall placement at year-end.

If its too much work, dont bother.......I just thought it would be interesting.

Mr. Sanford - Does this mean I can do some deviltry without being blamed for it? I'm always looking for another "project".

Of course not. I enjoy living life, not just existing it. It also keeps the likes of you on your toes and on the lookout. Would there be anything wrong with a laugh? Again, yes or no.

Don't you know he has been hanging around the politicians in Lansing for too long now and is no longer capable of answering a question with a simple yes or no.

To answer your question, just let me say that there is a time and place for a good laugh unless of course that laugh is not given at the wrong time. :coocoo:

Keep in mind that I'm a brand new rider to enduros so my opinion may not count at all but thought I would drop my $.02 . As a brand new rider my chances of earning any points would be pretty low under the A system. I'm certainly not competing for a class championship or anything but it is nice to see where I stand compared to the other back of the pack C riders instead of us all having 0 points. That said I do see the point of the A system as well.

Just to mix things up even worse if consideration is being made to change the points system, another option could be a hybrid of the two. Points are given out under the B system but if you finish in 1st-3rd for the event (all riders, district and non-district) you receive "bonus" points for that position. Say 5 points for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd (for example). That would benefit the guy who places high in the event in total thereby rewarding his top finish but it would also allow the guys further back to attain points to gauge their position relative to other D14 riders as well.

Then again - you could just ignore this since I'm so new and don't have a lot of information to go on.

Currently points are awarded 25,22,20,... So you get an extra point for taking first, but no extras for 2nd or 3rd. I think this is fair. How points are awarded is another can of worms and I think we should do what the national enduro series does.

But that is based on only riders in D14 which as I read it is the difference between system A and system B. Under system B a rider placing 10th in an event could get 25 points as long as he was the first D14 rider. My alternative idea would mean that guy would get 25 points but if he placed 1st in class in the event (over all riders, not just D14) he'd get 28 points. A guy placing 4th in class in the event but was the 2nd D14 rider would get the 22 points for 2nd place in D14 but wouldn't get the 3 bonus points for 2nd over everyone. Or let's say a guy placed 3rd in the event in class (over everyone) but was the 1st D14 rider would get 26 points - 25 for D14 1st, 1 for event class 3rd. In this way guys that finish ahead of everyone would get rewarded for it but it would still satisfy the guys that like the B system.

Thanks for the input Steve, but I think an A&B hybrid approach is more complicated than it needs to be.

I DO, however, want to hear the whole story from your Muddobber adventure! You came into staging a little delirious and reeking of some type of bio-diesel fuel!
