Engine-Differences btw. 380 SX AND 380 EXC/EGS ?

hello friends !

in the 380-manual they say that the SX has a different Ignition, and the gearing is also a little bit different, also the jetting.


are there any known differences which they DONT tell in the manual ?


for example, is the porting little different ? or is there a different compression-ratio ?


Am I right that the stock-380-SX has 65HP and the EXC/EGS has 60HP ?


i startet wondering about this topic as i heard that some guys said that the 520 SX (4stroke) and the 520 EXC (4stroke) are 2 completely different bikes compared to each other in the performance of the engine. ("SX has the more agressive engine")

I am sorry I do not know the actual in's and outs of each engine. However I believe the HP numbers you quote are slightly suspect. The 380EXC was producing around 45-48 RWHP. There may be a slightly different output between the bikes due to the silencers.

we had different 380´s on a dyno...EGS and EXC...both produced about 54 RWHP

60 RWHP were reached by some of my friends after putting on a aftermarket pipe and some other modifications


those 60 HP from the manual are on the clutch

also we never had the chance to compare a SX barrel to an EXC/EGS barrel...no one here owns an SX :-(


for that reason we never had an SX on a dyno :-(
