Randy, I can't wait to see you and Susan! It will be a lot of fun! Jennifer has already sent her registration form back and she's practicing hard for the race. I will be there helping with whatever needs to be done. I will also bring my brand new camcorder/helmet camera and try to film as much as possible.

Guess I come from the angle of a marathon runner and generally fall down on the first lap and need a longer race so the others will get tired and I can catch up!! Altho I did try track for a while and drove 100 miles each way for a 30 second, a 67 second and a 2.5 minute race.... that was interesting.

But you're right, if a person's going as fast as they can for 45 minutes, well....that CAN be enough. I just need to practice being race ready at the start.

Here's a helpful hint... spend a little time working on the Le Mans starts. It is unusual and practicing makes a big difference and starts are pretty important in a Hare Scramble! Oh, wear a down jacket so the heat won't bother you when you get here.

Pierre, if you want to go out and "make sure the course is clear" before we begin and make a tape of the track that would be fine by me.

E-Ticket, we would love to have your help. I appreciate the drive, we drove to Portland last year so my son could race in the Washougal WORCS event.

I have to fly out of state on that same Sunday for a Monday morning meeting and I was trying to figure out a way to ride, let someone take care of my bike til I got back, drive to the airport and fly out but it all got too hectic when I started looking at departure times  :whiner:

You all have fun!  Randy and Susan, sorry I will miss you this time!  At least I will see Fe Princess in Oklahoma (hey how come we have to travel all the way across the country to hang out?) :)

Good luck FE :) Hope to read a report from you after the event ;) lol (that got me thinking I don't think I've ever read a ride report by you - it's the wierd/funny incidents you remember, not the whole ride, well, for me in any case). This is going to be cool!!

Bummer Natalie - that's the one reason I haven't changed jobs for too long - it's so cruisey that it doesn't interfere with riding plans & I'd just threaten to leave if my boss put his foot down about my time off when I wanna go ride (I'm pretty good though, I know there are days I really can't take off so don't bother asking/telling them).

Good luck Susan & Jennifer & all you others going. ET - you're so sweet, I hope you do manage to go for a ride.
I'm looking forward to hearing how the event went & hope it becomes an annual event for you guys/gals - with luck it'll lead to more of the same :)

You can pre-register with the form found at: Furnace Flyer (my number is on the flyer feel free to call me).

The D-36 boards at: Furnace Info also have a lot of information. Otherwise day of the race registration is fine.

We put the flyer in the D-36 newsletter that went out last week and if you are a D-36 member you will probably get a letter from us too.

We completed the pre-race "race speed" test of the track today. All I will say is that the test riders had an absolute blast , the course has a little of everything (except mud).

How big is this area? Will there be places to ride and warm up on Saturday, or will everything be shut down for the race?

Race numbers and bar codes will be assigned to riders at the race. We will have preprinted numbers (on card stock) for your front plates, you can put stick-on numbers on if you wish, someone will be selling them out there.

About 2/3rds of the park will be open to public riding (about 500 more acres), warming up, etc. Here's a link to the park web site: Prairie City

Registration will be open at least 2 hours before each race. It shouldn't take too long to get through the process.

Sponsor Announcement: Parts Unlimited and Roseville Cycle (one of the largest MC dealers in Northern California) both just came through with substantial sponsorships!

Bikes are tuned and ready. Susan's been practicing LeMans starts in the driveway. [Editor's note: I think the other competitors are, er... "safe" :eek: ]
Load the trailer on Thursday night and hit the road at noon on Friday! :yeehaw:

(and then proceed to gripe ... allllll the way to Sacramento....about the stoopid CA law about trailers only allowed to go 55 mph..... sheeesh! :whiner: )

My only advice on the 55 MPH thing is... follow the semis, they have the same speed limit and they average 65-70 most of the time.

BTW, we are expecting a mild 92 degrees on Sunday... the Furnace lives!

Here's the race information we are posting at Prairie City:

Course: approximately 4 miles, double track, single track, MX, etc. very little mud on course, however there will be plenty of rocks for your enjoyment.

Riders are required to stay on the trail, the 20’ rule does not apply, any course cutting will lead to disqualification. Approximately 9 flaggers will be on the course, follow their directions.

Outcheck: Riders will be required to come to a complete stop at the outcheck where their numbers will be recorded.

Start: Le Mans start – dead engine, kickstands or board to hold up bike, run approximately 15 feet to your bike at the sound of the gun.

Classes will be arranged in lines at the start, each line will have a 1 minute gap between starts, times will be adjusted at the end of the race.

Scoring: scoring will be completed by barcodes on helmets. Be sure to place the barcode on the RIGHT side of the helmet as worn.

Number Plates: Barcode numbers MUST be on the front plate and are recommended on the side plates for ease of scoring.

Finish line: all riders must come to a complete stop at the finish line each lap.

Pit: 5 MPH limit through the pit area, dead engine refueling. Bring drinks to the pit area just in case you need a break!

Show good sportsmanship, ride safe, be careful and have a ton of fun today!
