The toy hauler is ours.

If you are leaving on Wednesday then maybe we can meet at the McD's on the 138 and caravan up. That way when we get to KM we can start roping off an area for the rest of the crew...

Sounds good to me. I'm still debating rv rental or tent. I'd prefer the rv for the family so they could at least go inside for a while durning the day, but all are over a $1000 so far. My tent is free. I'll probrably still go RV.

Horse Meadow is too far. Kennedy Meadows is too far from a trailhead.

Troy Meadows is worth considering as there is a swimming hole or two within a short walking distance. Troy overflow is the largest area but can get dusty.

Fishcreek overflow is a good choice as the trees tend to make it a little cooler. I think you might be able to build a dam for a swimming hole - always a good fun thing for the kids to do - depends on the water level though.

Personally I like all these areas, but would lean towards the Fishcreek overflow.

I'd like to go up there before the 4th to scout it out a bit - who wants to go?

Looks like I may be able to make this one. For a couple days at least. ;)

Kiwi. I second the Fishcreek overflow camping area.

Rex, I'll be going with or without the tribe... Mary may have to work.
I'll chase you up the 15/395... Maybe I'll even give you a push up the hill to Victorville. :moon: Leave early early Wednesday?

Just to put my space requirements on record... I'll have my 21' toy-hauler. Sounds like it'll have to be one of the overflows?

I'm 93.4% sure me and my family are going to go. The only things that may stop me would be action on the job search front or not getting my new kick starter in time (broke it last trip out). I think I'll be in the overflow as well. I have a 31ft motorhome + bike trailer.

Tee-Maybe we can follow you up. We just live up the street from Santee. You got a CB on your rig?

Camped at Fish Creek overflow this weekend. Great spot but the ranger gave me a hard time with the 14 yo riding around near camp so that was the only downer - otherwise great weekend and perfect weather.

Lots of firewood available if you want to pick it up - I think if we took a truck and a few guys we could get enough to last all weekend. I'll try and dig my chainsaw out of storage if no one else has one.

Looks like I'll be headed up July 3rd in the morning and returning some time on Sunday. Is Fish Creek overflow where we are going to Camp?

Looks like Fish Creek is the place. Tee and I are going up Wednesday morning and coming back on Monday to try and miss some traffic. If anyone wants to follow and is going up the 395 we can meet at the McD's below Phelan and caravan up.

Let me know.

Kiwi & other prospective wood collectors: I have 14 boxes of cut fire wood ready (thumbs is my witness), but will not be arriving until Fri. night, nor do I have space to haul but a fraction of the boxes on my Toyota, so if anyone wants to either pick them up @ my place in Irvine or wants to haul them up I can deliver to your place beforehand. Let me know...

Ok Boys were getting closer ... Who is in for sure ... When are you going up... I think we are set on camping at the Fish Creek Overflow..

Does anyone know if there is a dump station up in the area to use?
Do you need a Forest Adventure Pass while you are up there?

We are going up on the morning of the 3rd and are staying thru Monday the 8th.

Rex, there is a dump station at a place called Grumpy Bears. It is down on the flat ground before you start the last ascent to the camp grounds. Its on the left side of the raod and the building sits about 100 yds off the road, big gravel parking lot, probably 20 min ? before you would get to Fish Creek. I am not sure if its actually for public use or if they charge you etc though. Kiwi will have better details on that. Man you guys that haven't been there before are gonna LOVE Kennedy Meadows.

Kiwi, Estela and 14 yo terror Adam will be arriving Wednesday night or Thursday morning, leaving Sunday about noon. Gas Gas 300 and Honda XR100.

There is a dump station at Grumpy Bears down in Kennedy Meadows - don't know what they charge.

Adventure Pass not needed but pick up a fire permit (free) from the store. Bring a shovel, axe and chainsaw if possible.

I figured we could make a run in to the forest for some firewood - possibly from the burn area (no chainsaws allowed) or from a designated wood cutting area - ask at the store. You can not take any wood off the hill without a wood cutting permit but can cut and collect if it's going to used up there.

I'm heading up Wed. the 3rd and coming back Sunday afternoon. Not sure if I'll camp at Fish Creek or Fish Creek overflow. My prefrence is Fish Creek beacuse it's better for tent trash like myself.

I would prefer to camp at troy meadows. As its more accomidating to groups and the little ones. (its flatter and has possible swimming holes) But I'm OK with fish creek if thats where everyone else wants to go. FYI in the fish creek overflow there is no water, restrooms or anything its just a big flat dirt spot with trees. You'd have to cross the road and walk 300 yds to the closest restroom/ water for those not self contained. There is a spot at fish creek to accomidate a large group, which is where we camped last year. If you drive on the one way road through the campground, just before the exit is a good meeting location. We'll probrably camp there, and if the group decides to go elseware then we'll meander over for campfires etc.

Rex,

Its just across the road. If the people in fish creek take the spots close to the road and the people in the overflow do the same it'll be about 300 yds. however both sites go back in a ways, so it could get farther quickly.

It doesn't matter to me as long as we can stay together. I have never been up there so I am up for anywhere I can park my 21' Tent.

If it will be easier for the true tent campers and kids at Troy then lets do Troy.

Should we take a vote?

I second the stay together bit. The ranger gave me a hard time with the kid learning to ride at FC overflow.

Do we want to go to Troy or Troy overflow? I'm thinking Troy may be better as we can take kids to the overflow for easy riding without dusting out our own camps.

Thoughts?

I vote for Troy also. I've only ridden though it but it seemed nice and Placelast and others highly recomend it for groups.

OK... I guess since I started this thread I will make an executive decision and say Troy it is. That will give the kids more activities and the adults more rest..

So Troy Meadows it is. I hope the area that placelast mentioned is open for my RV (31ft). We plan on heading up on Weds. also. This is looking to be a pretty big group. It looks like there's going to be plenty of kids along as well. I know my kids will be happy to hear that.
