Hey Wankel boy! LOL How many rotors did that Zuk have? and whats that thing under the frame, it almost looks like the exhaust pipe wraps around and comes forward again?

The RE-5 is a single rotor, 498cc wankel. 

It looks like there is a little 'air scoop' on the front of the exhaust pipe.  One web page I found says the exhaust pipe got extrmelely hot on the bike.  Maybe it is a functional scoop to help lower pipe temps?

BTW, anyone remember the Hercules rotary engine dirt bike?  It was never sold, but did race in the ISDE one year in the mid '70s.

Exactly. Wankel engines have very poor thermal effciency and dump a ton of heat into the exhaust system. Mazda set more than one race car on fire during development.

Remember.... ProBelt kidney belts, SEER goggles, anything from Tamm?(the coolest ((temperature and style wise)) riding pants I ever had!!) Too bad Team Tamm didn't make it. I didn't see anyone mention any leading link suspension! Anybody use JT Phase2 air filters? I still have my pair of Moto-X Fox boots from 1978. Last but not least...Oury gripps....the OVAL ones!

What happened to those motocross cards that were coming out in like 2004, they had full page adds for a couple months in dirt rider mag. I forgot their name, procomp somthing or another. They looked really cool and had a nice website and everything but I can't come up with the name to find their website and see what happened to them. When I get some time I am going to tear through the last year of dirt rider and find their website again.

I have the whole set of champs 91' high flyers, their cool, we just need some new ones!

My bike has the full floater rear suspension. Works awesome (though I can't really compare it to anything because it's the newest bike I've ridden)

My other bike has piston port injection, a toolbox on the lower part of the rear fender, an aluminum gas tank complete with knee dents, dual shocks with two springs each (one long stiff one that sits on a short softer one), drum brakes, air cooling (don't think anyone's mentioned that yet), and two spark plug holes in the head

Whoa! Old thread here!
reading through these again reminded me of another one;
Can-am had those off-set bearing races in the steering stem, you could turn them and actually change fork rake! :laugh:

Yes they are O' mighty one,.. in street design 'choppers' as well,... just having fun reminiscing some old oem features.

13 pages, i got you on one wardy. How about leading link front ends ala DKW and Sachs. When you applied the front brake in a corner the torque would raise the front end, no dive. thats what Honda was looking for on the Ribi system.And how about Pro Am SOLID aluminum handle bars, torque weights for TM 400 Suzukis that were solid brass and weighed 4 POUNDS.
btw i had a 81 490 Maico that was freshly rebuilt by Eric the guy still had the reciept from 82.I pulled the pipe and looked thru the exhaust port to see a BRAND NEW MAHLE piston. I decided it was more than I wanted to mess with and sold it. AHHHHHHHHHHH
Well at least Ive got my 83 complete with left hand kick
also I love those ATK bike shoes they sold alot better than the bikes. I think AJ is still using them. and I need 3

Hey, Rokon is still going strong with their 2 wheel drive bike on fat tires. No MX bike, but their utility bike is still in production. Has either a Honda or Kohler engine now. I have a '72 in the garage with a Chrysler Outboard Corp. engine on it. It has sounded like it was ready to explode since '74. :) Say, how do threads this old come back to life? LOL
