I broke my collar bone about two weeks ago going (attempting) to
go over a log. I hit it a little to fast and instead of the back wheel rolling
over the log it "shot" upwards catapulting my butt (and me) up in the air.
I also have the figure 8 brace and for the most part I'm not terribly
uncomfortable. I consider this a "good" bone to break. A broken Femur,
Pelvis, Humerus or Tibia/Fibia would be much worse in my opinion. (not to
mention possibly surgical and a lot longer down time)

Dont sell your bike, I never for a moment thought of giving up riding, this is
part of the deal. I consider myself lucky and I can't wait to get back
on the trails. I wont be trying any logs as big as the one that "got me"
again ( I hope) but I will defiently return.

Any idea how long the average "non-riding" time is after a calvicle fracture?
What exercises are good for "re-hab"?

Best of luck and much calcium!

It took 10 weeks before I passed my "test". I figure if you can't do a full pull up, and at least 10 parallel bar dips, you are not strong enough to ride.

For the non injured side, I used a 15 lb barbell, did every excersise I could think of. For the injured side I used a Therma-band, and worked my injured shoulder. I continued using the band until I was able to over power the band. Then switched to the 15 lb barbell.

For me the re-hab went real slowly the first six weeks. Then the improvements came quickly. You should avoid any house work as it is an un-natural muscle movement. :silly:

My prognosis is my clavicle will heal but may not be as strong as it was. It should be able to withstand the rigors of riding. I ride standup jet ski's as well. I consider myself lucky, and if you have to break something, the clavicle is it. Just a bummer. I'm 3 weeks into it now, and I am not making any rash decisions as of yet. I appreciate all of the comments from everyone.
