another little fact is that although both stewart and ricky went down in this race doesn't mean he can't beat them in another race. Many people seem to think that ricky can beat stewart even though he hasn't done so in a race where stewart hasn't fallen.

Did anyone watch this on TV yet? A couple bullet points from me:

At the race, during the main, watching RC ride out and thru the tunnel, he was slapping hands of the kids who were hanging over the rail to the tunnel, so his spirits were ok. He wasn't sulking.

On TV, did anyone notice the back end sagging on his bike? It sure looked like about half the travel was gone to me. Broken shock collar is what he told the interviewer.

As for Bubba dropping back, he did kick that 450 non-stop for about a lap and a half. That would take the wind out of about anyone's sails. And a cruising Bubba is still about as fast as almost anyone else on the track.

I did notice the rear suspension when I watched it again and knew to look for it.

I thought the same thing about Bubba. I know I'm warn out after kicking my bike 5 or 6 times. That and he probably figured that since he was lapped by so many racers that it was a total loss. He is still in the chase and it was smart not to risk anything.

I was thinking today, "man, Daytona should be interesting this year, I think CR beat both JS and RC there last year?". Then I remembered, "isnt TP supposed to be racing that race?". I sure hope he doesnt make a crash into one of these guys in the points race to screw it all up.
.
I agree with the observations that Ivan is getting better, and great to see... I think he still needs some time to get right up on the tail of the elites though. I would think he has more for KW than JS,RC,CR right now. I would like to see Ivan get better though.

What an amazing set of circumstances. No one could have guessed that Bubba and RC would have such issues in the same race. This year may come down to the wire. The Bubba incident adds new relevance to that commercial that plays adnausium every week!!

I love dirtbikes and I'd stay if RC, JS, and CR went out just to see the action, hear the noise, and smell the exhaust.

Same here...I drive 600 miles 1-way to get to a SX (Dallas) and I'm up there in the stands by noon watching practice, qualifiers, etc. I go to the pits, walk around the stadium, walk down to the track, etc., etc. Three-days later, if I breathe real deep, I can still smell the race gas. That's why I go.

This year, I'm going to stay for the trophy presentation. I might be the last person to leave the stadium!! :aj:

I'm going to try to make Dallas next year. I have too many plans this year. I live in Albuquerque so Phoenix, and Dallas are close enough, but my goal is to see the final round.

I wonder if Amp'd Mobile gives rider bonuses for keeping it interesting.

Indeed. If I'm gonna cough up the jack to drive to a supercross, motel for a couple nights, and meals, I'm gonna get everything I can out of it. Otherwise I'm gonna stay home and watch it the next day.

Bubba didn’t choke like I thought he did. He simply was taken out by the tough-block.

I'm curious if JS got word that RC was out.

finally watched the race, didn't notice any mention about Larocco. Maybe someone who was there can tell me, was he riding that far off the pace or did he have a crash? He seems to be having a harder time this year being as consistent as he has in the past.

I would argue the value of "Bubba's win" at that shortened, mud pit of a race in San Francisco over the top two guys crashing their way out of a win at STL. But I won't...cause that's how Bubba got it done. And while it may not have been the all out, hard earned, 3-way drag race we wanted to see...that's how STL went down and that's how Reed got it done. One thing that is for sure...both RC and Bubba's mistakes were 100% their fault. So I don't know how it's Reed's fault that the faster riders weren't there to prove it.

Larocco either stalled it or washed out in the corner before the long whoop section. You can see him kicking away in some of the shots. Can't remember when that was, though (early, late, etc)

Actually, I think Evans might have put Larocco on the ground in that turn...

Pretty sure Larocco crashed in the start, with RC, Gibson, Thomas... maybe others. Larocco got back going, and passed into the top 10 around lap 6, then I believe Evans put Larocco on the ground.

He may live to regret that.

I watched the race again this morning and JBS actually got the bike running, but then stalled it again when he went off the track. Oops.

I remember that. He went to knock the clutch lever up on the bars and stalled it doing so. Then, kick-kick-kick-kick-kick...

Daytona is not part of the Amp'd/THQ world SX because they refuse to sell their air rights, the track owns them. And the last 3 years it has been air same day, with a 4 hour delay on Speed. I don't know for sure, but no reason to believe it will be any different this year..

I haven't looked up the TV schedule for Daytona, because I only live 70 miles from Daytona and always watch it in person.

And if is stays close, I only live 120 miles from Orlando and may have to go there this year also.

Just found it,, 9:30 PM Friday March 10th,, Speed will air the Daytona SX.. Like usual, I should make it home from the track in time to see both finals again. ;)

Does anyone know the last time RC was behind in points at this stage of the season? From memory for the last 2-3 years (excluding the year he was out with injury) he has led in the points after the other main contenders had slow starts to the season and was able to fairly comfortably make the podium to complete the championship.

At the AMA page, it is easy to see the SX seasons back to '03, but the years prior to that take some digging.

In '03, Chad had a 7 point lead on RC after two rounds, but Ricky took the lead in the 3rd round and held on for the title.

In '02, RC did not get his first win until the 4th round (DV won the first 2 and the Rock won the 3rd round), but I cant easily find the points for mid-year.

Another fact the announcers on TV were harping about was that RC had never lost a point lead once he had it. Looks like they jinxed him!

Actually, I think I recently read somewhere that RC did lose the MX points lead once... to John Dowd after the Soutwick round. Of course, he won the title that year (and like every year!).

I just tried to find what year... and I'm not sure. Here are the results archives:

Well, they were talking about SX and MX, but they were just wrong, and they corrected themselves during the St. Louis broadcast, saying that it applied only to SX.

Plus I also believe every track is different, and certain sections will favor certain riders. Like Chad might be the fastest if there is a gnarly whoops section. Bubba might excel if there is a tricky rhythm/jump combo. RC might dominate if there are some crazy turns.
That's what's really cool to me. The top 3 excel at different areas, which is one of the reasons the title is so close.

Reed has big whoops dialed.
RC has slick tracks and corners dialed.
Bubba has tricky rhythm sections and smaller whoops dialed.

If it's a slick track with tricky rhythm sections and big whoops... it's tough to say who comes out on top, although my money is on RC.
