I'll test it tomorrow when I get there to see if I get reception fi not then we better find us a bar or some other form of plan "B"

I have 48 half pound burgers packed and ready for Sat dinner. I hope that covers it! I'll have buns, catsup and mustard too.

I'll be getting there early Friday probably by noon I think.

This was our most successful trailfest yet! It was so great to have familys there with the kids buzzin' the camp grounds on their bikes and have so many people stay for both Sat and Sunday. Rick and I got in a 30 mile ride Fri nite, Sat the ride was about 70 miles and we got 40 miles Sunday. Unfortunately we had one rider get hurt Sunday with a broken collarbone. :( Hope Bill is feeling better soon and healing up to join us for your Fall rides...he's gonna be laid up for 6 week. Great job to Tim for coming to his immediate aide on the trail and getting us to him to get him out.....everyone really pulled together like a team to get him taken care of. We have great people in our groups. Nice job all. Marie was our nurse in residence and that really came in handy having some one that knew what to do! :)

I just wanted to say to everyone that I had a wonderful time in the woods, at the campfire and at the burger fest hanging around. Thanks to Napper for providing the entertainment rippin' on his Honda 50...man that was funny.

Thanks to Marie for cooking us lunch Sunday, I appreciated the day off from the grill. Mark thanks for the spin on the 250 EXC...2003 just maybe!!!!
Thanks to Mike for setting the whole thing up. Your're a good guy Mike...I hope your year starts turning around for you...you deserve it. I know it's been tough.

The Badger cookies were great and the wild mushrooms were too...thanks.
Marlin..thanks for the Hash for breakfast

Rick nice to hang with you Friday nite...glad I could help you with a bunk. I'm enjpying one of your Killians gift right now as I type this...thanks!

Napper....I wanna party with you again man..you ROCK!

Who ever has pictures can you post some in the forum please?

Thanks to all and I'll see you on the trail....

I second Fred as this being the best Trailfest yet. The house is pretty quiet - all the kiddies are crashed out.

I just want to say it's great to be able to get to know such a good group of people. Not only are you guys great riders (and wait silently for me at each stop - thanks!), but you're all really good people too.

Thanks Fred for the burgers - Tim for the great cookies - Mike for the opportunity to use LMC grounds - Napper for the race with the kids!

Bill, we'll plan on having you at Trailfest IV!

What a great time and ditto on Mark's comments about the crew!

Mike, thanks again for another fantastic Trailfest. Sorry about the truck and throttle problems, but it's clear sailin' from here.

I would like to thank my sponsor, Team Ponderosa and FredT for the bunk, NY Strip, and support. Next time please cut me off after number 3 on the barley pops! Thanks to Badgerman for his suspension diagnosis and opportunity to ride the YZ.

Not sure whether to thank Napper for letting me ride his Lafferty replica, dude that thing rocks :aj: Thanks for your help and I'll be talking to you in the next few weeks.

Great to meet the families, please pass on my regards to your better halves.

Hope Bill is ok and looks like Bob was fine as well.

I think we should change the name to Trail FEAST III! Holy cow did I eat well! Thanks Fred, Marie, Mark, and everyone else who pitched in. The burgers were really appreciated. Especially on Sunday when we were out of food (and barley pops) except for cookies!

I think Hannah summed it up when she said during the ride home, “Mommy, can we just go live there”? Thanks Mike, it really is a wonderful place. I could sit and watch the kids (and one crazy dude on an XR50) zip around that field all day. LOL!

We are all on pins and needles waiting for the report from Bill. Hopefully it is nothing more serious than a collarbone fracture. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that it was a reality check for us all to be reminded that we’re not “unbreakable”. Great teamwork on everyone’s part in getting Bill safely out of the woods and on his way home! Them collarbones heel quickly………….he’ll be back in no time!

Oh, BTW! Mike Sr., thanks for sharing your secret crop of mushrooms!

Here's the responce I got back from Bill. Thought ya all might like to know how he's doing.
>>i just got home 20 minutes ago. the hosiptal in alma gave me a sling, said don't use the figure 8 strap. it broke in 2 places, each on either side of the break i had 20 years ago. the doc said that i have a lot of bone fragments floating around, and for some reason thinks the brace will cause problems will nerves / blood vessels. i'm going to see an ortho surgon tomorrow for a better prognosis. i already had a 1" lump from the previous break, and it now looks like a baseball under the skin. the bone ends are not connected - the x-ray looks like a "z".

my concern now is findind out what other drn'ers have done as far rehab, and whether or not they wore a brace. i want this thing to heal quickly (and right).

i can't thank all of you enough... you're right, it was great team work. i will follow up with a more appropraite response when i'm feeling better... this little e-mail took me 20 minutes with one hand...

the drugs are wearing off, will send a better update soon. there are a lot people i owe a big thanks to...

sorry to cut every one's ride short today... don't count me out for tf 4!!!

That's all I know about Bill for now.

Thanks to all I had a great time this last weekend and many laughs. First to Mike Mauer thanks for let letting us to your second home at the club grounds what an awesome place to hang out. By the way don't mention that I found you long lost brother Vern. You guys even have the same haircut. Really Mike thanks for putting this together.

Fred T, I think we need to change your name to Burgerman or Flying Freddie KDX. Thanks for the eats and I didn't mind dressing up in that wig and dress and you calling me sweet thing in your motorhome hell I will do anyhting for a free meal :) . It will be our secret. By the way I ordered the tall seat foam for the XR 50 for you. Can't wait til the next we will have fun.

MW's son sorry for the ram job with the XR 50. It must been the small dog symdome.(Poodle against the Graet Dane).

Rick Shaw glad you to hear you enjoyed the ride on my bike. Also thanks big time for the Gatorade at the fuel stop.

Bill hope thing go well for you while you are onthe mend. Sorry I didn't hand out with you to long at the emergency room. Just to many bad memories there for me to be there. (lond story).

Jeff Allen, Thanks for the night music that lasted to early mourning. ( Snoring).

Happy trails,
Napper

Hey everyone,

Thought I’d check in to say thanks and give everyone an update. I just got back from seeing a local orthopedic specialist. He took off the sling and took some more x-rays. Broke the collarbone in 3 places, not 2 like the Alma doc thought, including the same spot where it broke 20 years ago. :( X-ray looks like a broken up letter “Z” instead of a straight line. I also have some bone fragments floating around in there. Doc was surprised since the original break spot is supposed to be stronger. He then pulled my shoulders back hard to the point where I got nauseous I started to black out. A lot more pain today since the bone ends are closer together and rubbing. Have to wear figure-8 sling tight for 2 weeks, then back for more x-rays. My neck has a baseball size lump next to it from the bone and swelling. It’s taken some time to get back in front of a computer to post. Sitting and lying down are very uncomfortable. Standing is OK… if only I was a horse… :scream:

I need to mail you guys back your kidney belts. I have a Moose, Thor, and MSR belts. Let me know who owns what and PM me your address and I’ll get them back to you. Tim, I’ll also send back your clavicle strap. Hopefully you’ll never need to use it again.

Mike: Thanks for organizing TF3 and inviting us to the club grounds. It’s an awesome place to both camp and ride. Zach said it was one of his best trips ever. He wants to go back this weekend. Thanks again for loaning me the goggles on Sunday and to your cousin (Aaron?) for Saturday’s pair.

Fred T: First off, thanks for the awesome ride on your rocket 220. I figure that little ride is going to cost me about $350 now that I know what I’m missing! No wonder you’re so fast through the trails… The 1/2lbs burgers were also a great way to cap off a great ride.

Mark and V-Man and everyone else who helped me get off the trail. I know that everyone helped get me out; some parts are a little hazy though. A big thanks for the kidney belt sling. The ER staff in Alma was pretty impressed. I told them they could pick some up at Lansing Cycle. ;)

Loctite – Thanks for the smooth ride back to pavement. It was easier than the truck ride back on pavement.

Vern – Thanks for helping to get my bike and gear back to camp. Mike, you too. I wish someone could have taken a picture of F&S riding my little green machine. If you want to make the switch you can borrow it over the summer while I heal. I don’t think that there are any throttle problems with it (although the front end does have a tendency to wash out over berms!). :aj:

Badgerman: I’m thankful that you were riding sweep when I fell. I needed someone fast to catch up with the crew, and you were the man! I’ve fallen much harder and faster snow skiing. I suspect it was my helmet hitting the bone. Check the DRN posts regarding broken collarbones, and seriously think about a neck brace. It happens far too often and easy in this sport.

Marie and Tonya – Thanks so much for keeping an eye on Zach while I was out riding and crashing. You both have really nice kids and family. Thanks also for the trailside medical aid. The ice bag, water, pain killers made a grueling ride back a little easier.

Michman: Thanks for driving my rig down to Alma and dropping me off at the ER. I wasn’t in any condition to be pulling a trailer. You kept me laughing with the story of your pelvic fracture nurse stories, made me feel lucky it was only a collarbone. I can go to the bathroom by myself, but my wife does have shower and dress me, tie my shoes, etc. She says it’s like a 4th kid to take care of! When I checked out of ER I told them to credit the points to Randy’s “frequent patient” card. As far as your pocket XR-50, Zach now wants a bigger shock and the governor taken off his. (Thanks!) I told him he’s too young though for the goatee and tattoos…don’t ever show him the BBR catalog…

Thanks everyone for helping me get my dirt legs back again. I’ve been waiting a long time to get back into riding again; I just didn’t imagine I’d be reliving the broken collarbone part! You guys are all pretty fast – I just need some more miles under my belt busting up some bark.

It was great meeting and riding with everyone else. Count me in for a fall trailfest. I’ll be the one wearing the EVS neck brace with a fresh set of S12s nobs on the front! Until then I’ll be riding vicariously through your DRN posts (typing slowly with one hand)….

- Bill

Glad to hear you going to be OK Bill.

Napper, I forgot to tell you that someone else was sawing logs that night and kept me up for a bit also. Who it was I'm not sure, so I'll take half of the blame :D

Thanks again Craig for the bunk on Friday night, it was a lot warmer than in the tent on Saturady.

The Hare Scramble at Mio was great. 6.1 miles of tight trails and all around a fast track. I finished 13th out of 24 and Chase finished 5th out of 16. Chase got a trophie and in my class they handed out trophies up to 12th place.:whiner:

I do not know where to start...

A big Thank You to the sponsors - LMC (clubgrounds) and LANSING CYCLE for the door prizes and stickers. If you get a change to stop by (or call) Lansing Cycle, please express your appreciation to Alan, Joel (TF attendee) or Brian. Bob (TF attendee) and Napper will be working too hard in the back to answer the phone. ;)

I would like to thank everyone who attended TF III (especially the families). When I read all the comments about the weekend, it makes all the work worthwhile and I get excited about the next one (which may be a combination trail ride/Jack Pine work weekend).

I felt terrible that Bill was our first casualty in two years. I hope you heal quickly and can return to riding soon.

Lunch is over...time to go to a meeting.

Mike

P.S. The Exploder made it to Kalkaska, but the repair bill exceeds the value (IMHO). I had to borrow a vehicle to get home. :ugg:

I've been enjoying all the posts since Sunday night (Fred had already written a lengthy dissertation by the time we even got home, woke up the kids, unloaded, unpacked, etc.)

What a great group of people. I especially appreciate that we can bring our kids to such an event where they are so well cared for and looked after. With the exception of the "Bob and Tom" references, and the tatoo saga by Michman, most of the conversation was kid friendly. Thanks!

Aaron's dad, you have raised yourself one fine son. His thoughtfullness around the campfire (getting up to fetch another chair when both myself and Marie showed up) did not go unnoticed. He could give lessons to some of the men folk.

Zach's dad, it was our pleasure to look after your son. The girls actually fought over him a bit. He is one fine young man. He changed in and out of his riding gear several times on Saturday, each time needing only slight help buckling his boots. He was very meticulous about turning off the gas when he parked his bike. You're teaching him well. Good luck healing. Our prayers are with you.

Mike, sorry about dropping the staple gun in the dirt. By the third time I ran it over, I finally figured out why it kept falling out. Hopefully Ian got all the arrows off the trees. (Did ya like the "W"rong arrow I put on the fallen tree going high over the trail that goes up near the road? I'm not sure Ian noticed that one.) I have a new appreciation for the arrow-putter-upper-guys that mark the enduro races. Seriously, Mike, thanks for making each rider feel welcome. I'm sure the next Trail Feast (Fest?) will be an even greater success because of your hospitality.

TTFN!

1st of all, I'd like to say that this is NOT Sweeprider, this is her son, RedHed.

Ok i'll start now.

Fred, you've introduced me into a new way of eating. the radioactive burgers were awsome!

Mike Jr., thanks 4 all the stickers you wasted on me. I still haven't put them all on my bike. I tried to get my dad to put some on his, but he said " it looks stupid that way." He also said "do what you want to your bike, but DON"T TOUCH MINE!."

Bill, your boy is a fine young rider and I am looking forward to seeing him BEHIND me. I should say I am looking over my shoulder to seeing him BEHIND me.

Mike Sr., you have some mushroom hunting competition now. I gave my grandma the GPS coordinates to find the radioactive morels. She is WAY better than my dad is b/c she was the one who taught him his skills.

Jeff, at the next TF, BRING YOUR GUITAR! I'll teach you how to play some Led Zepplin songs. I'll bring my little pignose amp and a cord You, Aaron, My dad , and I could really jam if we each brought our own guitars.

Everyone, I had a lot of fun on TF III and "I'll Be Back ":p

You all should know that the family stuff is what we all had in mind thirty- six years ago when Mike Jr. went to his first Jack Pine... (there's a real story there... )

Sorry my church conference hit the same weekend, but it was good to see Bob Bulmer and some of the "Old Guys" there.

Make sure Jr. lets you know the dates for JP and Pine Cone...

Blessings,

Sounds cool Red and I'll show you some Hendricks licks. We'll have to get Ben to bring his drums along also.
