Hey i recently bought a 1999 TTR-250 and it i have a lot of trouble starting it using the electric start. The bike sounds as though its turning over but it usually takes a long time to get it started and usually the battery runs out before it starts.

I have a lot of trouble kickstarting it as well but i find if i give it four or five kicks then use the electric start it usually starts straight away. Once i have been riding the bike for a few minutes and turn the bike off, the electric start will start the bike instantly

I'm just wondering if this is a common thing to have to do in the colder winter months or if there is a way to maybe fix this problem. Thanks - mat.

Sounds lean. Try adjusting the air/fuel screw (not sure what/where on this model), or jetting richer. Another thing to try: tilt the bike to the right about 45deg before you try to start it. Try the electric start first and see if that helps. The kicking you do now is priming the carb before the e-start, IMO.
