I'd like somebody to define "successful".

Jeff Ward with titles in multiple racing venues is not successful?
MC who almost single handedly brought SX to where it is was not successful?
Geesh! Do we need to continue to build the list? :|

This is the MX/SX/AX forum, so 'most successful rider of all time' refers to accomplishments in these sports.

IMO, an MX/SX rider's success is measured by major championships and major event wins.  Major championships and events include FIM 125/250 and open MX, AMA outdoor 125, 250 and 500 MX, and AMA 250 SX.

Ward and McGrath are certainly among the all time greats and two of my personal favorites.  MC is the most successful SX rider of all time, and even RC has said as much.  The fact that Ricky has more combined MX/SX wins does not detract from what other greats contributed to the sport.

Bubba may well top Ricky's career accomplishments someday.   I really hoped we would see these two great riders go at it in both SX and MX in '04, but I guess Kawasaki has other plans.  :ugg:

I too used to root against RC. He is still far from may favorite, but he has earned so much respect imo. I consider myself a realist, and reallity is in the record books.

WideOpen. I go to parties, sometimes until 4

I was going to say with that attitude I was suprised you ever got married, but then I noticed where you are from.

Let see, down under there are 7 times as many women as men, in the US about even up. I dare say women there aren't as demanding as US women.

I'm not a RC "hater" I just prefer Reed..... or Kdub...........or LaRocco.......... or

I was a huge McGrath fan but I also lived in the real world that made me recognize he would not be on the podium with a walker when he was 82 years old. Every champion has their reign and I really think that RC's indoor kingdom is going to fall to Skippy this year. Maintaining control while still being as fast or faster each lap has got to be a more realistic way to the top than pin it more, hold on tighter and hope harder the rear of the bike stays behind the front. It will be interesting no matter what because there's more than one rider that looks to have a good shot.

Again....Fad Reed will not be an all time great...He will win some races and go out of style like Damon Bradshaw...All hype and no Championships...

For Reed to be an all time great he's going to have to do a WHOLE lot of winning and that includes the outdoors as well...MC was good outdoors too, just not as good as he was indoors and Reed is NO MC...

It's funny because everyone keeps making the same excuse for Fad Reed..."He really just wanted to get through the outdoors to the indoors"...

Well, it's funny because RC's "wanting to get to the outdoors" got himself a new SX championship to add to the list while Fad Reed's "wanting to just get to the indoors" resulted in a major A$$ whipping in the motocross series...lol

Looks like we could all save a lot of time and money and just let whitesands26 award his hero all the trophies & #1 plates for the next dozen years or so. Now I wonder what's on the quilting channel...

BTW still waiting on those numbers so I can go buy my winning ticket.

Well I just watched the US Open and it was interesting one comment kept being brought up "This track is VERY SX in design..." It was also interesting to see Skippy chase down RC then pass him and run away.

Should be some interesting races this season for sure. Even the Cobra looks real good.

And to think all my bikes are HRC
