Oh..AJ buddy, I feel for you. I know how it hurts..been there..and being far from home.

I put both bones in my lower right leg through the skin..lots of blood. However, I was way out in the country side of Japan when it happened in a little tiny hospital for 3.5 months!..like a prisoner. Didn't get to speak a word of english in those 3.5 months..refused to eat the fish heads & cold rice..the only thing they served. Never saw a cold drink, french fry, peice of fruit, beef, pizza or vegetable other than cabbage for 3.5 months. Lost 33 pounds. Feelling better yet? However, I was the only foreigner those nurses ever saw & they kept finding a need to check my weeny :-)

Can somebody get these posts to AJ in the hospital?

Jeeeeez TT. :)
Okie, sorry we couldn't make it this year. Lots and lots of long stories behind us not showing. Well, one had to do with moving my daughter back home right after she got released as a Flight Attendant for United. Heard it was a good time despite all the crap going on in the world.
Was worried knowing that AJ travels by himself most of the time. Glad Speedy and Jeremy were there with him.
I do have a hospital location and phone number, but, judging by the shape my kid was in the day after, I think we ought to wait a while before we all start callin' and raggin on him. He's probably got that Opium pump mashed to the throttle stops right about now.

with a compound fracture and it was cool.
:scream:
Call me a whimp, but I NEVER look at injury film like that. Be it fottball plays, or whatever. I can not stand seeing body parts going the wrong way. Funny, I was never like that until I blew up my knee.

Sorry to hear about AJ.

Speedy, what hospital is he in? I'm sure we could gather up a bunch of SoCal DRN'ers to go give him some sh..., I mean, visit him.

If there is anything those of us in the area can do, let us know.

.

The rumor is that he had an encounter with a hay bale. Not too sure where it happened, but there is a double at the back that is further if you jump on the left side, and gets you close the the fence/haybales if you go long (which I hear AJ excels at). But I guess how it happened isn't really that important.

I hope he gets well soon.

I wish that was the case.

AJ did indeed hit a hay bale when he over shoot a small double. He said he went over the bars and he thinks his boot got caught in them. He was in serious pain when the track Medics were working on him. It took about 20 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and then another 45 minutes before we got to the hospital. Once at the hospital they were able to start pumping some pain killers into him.

Okie is right, it was a broken Tibula and Fibula. The Tibula being broken in two places required a titanium rod. There was not as much blood as Amiee says but it did not look good. His Doctor said the surgery went well but the might want to keep him for a few days.

Wonder if AJ sprung for the leg extension inserts while they were in there patching? Wouldn't hurt to be 3 or 4 inches taller:p

Talked to Speedy about 3PM (central) and she said he was up and moving around some. The placement in ICU was precautionary due to the nature of the break and stabilizing him.

AJ UPDATE!

I just got off the phone with AJ about 1 minute ago. He's seems to be in good spirits and said "It's not really too bad." when I asked about the pain and he hadn't had any pain meds since about noon (at least any he could remember:D ). He's being well tended to by GSR and TTRGuy. He did seem proud of the fact that he "tricked" the hospital in to feeding him two lunches (since he was VERY hungry at the time) by transferring rooms. Seems to me maybe he didn't get the treat he thought since I was going to have a pizza delivered if he was still starving. Oh well guess somebody has to like the green jello. We didn't talk too long because his physical theropist walked in and was looking bored so there was some concern that she might decide to see how far his foot would spin:scream:

Get well soon my friend!:)

AJ and Pain?
The guy has broken everything at least once.

While riding at Casey a few weeks before Dw '01, he crashed pretty good a couple of times for the cam, some of you may recall the nasty high-side video, where he lost pretty much ALL the skin on his forearm. He never mentioned it, never looked at it... nuthin. Me? I would have been down for the count. He rode again anyway. I kid you not, the blood was dripping from his forearm, looked like hamburger. Ask him about it? "No big deal"

He is one tough guy. I imagine he's flirting with the nurses by now.

(UPDATE: 8:51 CT) Just got off the phone with him... Double compound :scream: ... he's being typical AJ. Ready to come home as soon as they will let him.
