Good News:
Crash Test Dummy has left the building!

Bad News:
He's staying with BillyWho! AHHHHH! Billy! He's already broken dude!

Seriously... It's VERY cool that DRN'ers take care of each other like this... AJ was never alone out there, got tons of DRN calls and has a good place to stay before making the long trip home. Thanks Billy (oh yeah... Show Dr. D the roost this weekend!).

We've got a very cool network of friends going on.!!! And I'm sure there are much worse things than being pampered by Speedy :debil:

GSR, let AJ know that if he needs a place to relax over night on his way home. I've got accomadations for a "tripod" guest.:p I'm just off of I44 close to Tulsa. He could look at it as the "Casa de Offroad, Bed and Breakfast".

***** Yep. Lots of good DRN'ers in SoCal. A strong contingent, indeed. Tons of organized rides, etc. Just keep an eye on the Organized Rides forum.

A.J. Roadrace Outing????

GSR, do you have a number that I might be able to get ahold of AJ at? I'd like to invite him to a trackday this Friday up at Buttonwillow. He's been interested in CR-500 Supermotards and Roadracing, so I figure he might like to come hang out. I'd be happy to pick him up on Friday morning and drop him back off Friday evening.

My cell # is : (805) 506-5784 he can call any time.

Sean, AJ caught a flight home this afternoon. I think it will be some time before he's back in Socal.

Tim, if the "good stuff" comes via an IV or shot, it wouldn't have mattered. You still would have been in for an argument. ;)

Hey all-

I'm home and good.

Cant thank you ALL enough for all the calls, posts and good thoughts!
They really cheered me up in the hospital !!.
you have no idea..it meant ALOT

and MUCHO thanks to all the great friends that went out of thier way to really help me out during the last week!!

It sounds weak and lame to me to just say THANKS..I wish i had better words to convey what i really mean.
but im at a loss for words ....
so THANKS EVERYONE!! :)

Tim ..they were offering a morphine IV even at the track while putting me in the ambulance.also the guy tried to talk me into it the whole ride there ...lol..
I hate shots!!
so declined until we got to the ER room at the hospital where i knew an IV was ineviatable at that point.

Hope you're feeling a little better AJ. 16-20 weeks is a long time, but at least it isn't during peak riding season.

GSR How many of those weeks will he have to be completely off of his foot?

AJ I hope they give you a walking boot or something similar. Breaking your leg is a real bummer...... I hope you dont have stairs in your house. ;)

the story

.
AJ - when you're feeling up to it, could you let us in on the details that led up to the crash?

While you're healing, maybe you could figure out how to stuff a CRF450 engine into an aluminum frame. Seems Honda didn't get it right (according to MXA).:debil: If you could get it to handle like your CR500AF, you'd have a winner.

MikeT, doesn't Alpinestar make a walking boot....?

With as many foot injuries as I've had, I should know this by now. When I had the surgery on my left foot I asked that they put a blue cast on it. Then I stenciled YAMAHA on it in the factory font. Looked pretty cool, plus I was very bored.

AJ, take an Alpinestar sticker and put it on your boot.. It'll make you walk faster..;)

LOL holeshot..
on the CRF450 amnd MXA.
They have thier opinion which is just that ..
an opinion. A qualified one or not is the real question.

Ive ridden the bikes-
and i like the blue as well as red thumpers..to say there is a HUGE difference would take a bit of embellishment in my personal "UNQUALIFIED" opinion.....

The CR is diffenantly lighter and feels it.
its handling isnt remarkable worse or better than the blue beast-
same with the engine..different not better or worse depending on your personal riding style.
both are good bikes...
i find it humorous anyone could come to a much varied result.

On my injury..it was a pretty simple (and STUPID) crash.
If you know the track well i was coming down a lil back section sweeper into a TINY double ( almost 2 whoops)
the preceding laps i had just jumped past the whole lil double and slight jog in the track onto the following slightly sweeping straightaway.
That lap i drifted a lil to the left and as you cant see the section i backed off a lil thinking i was lined up wrong and had to much speed..
result was way over jumping the little double ..but not far enough to land into the straight after the lil "jog" in the track(mostly because i was to far left and really slowing down)
i ended up landing inbetween the sections with the front wheel landing right on a hay bale..LOL

it was an easy endo..and i was actualyu laughing..not going fast at all and thinking i would jump up no worries no skin lost even.
i guess the leg got caught in the bars is my only guess..as i had no abrasions anywhere ..on me to show the slow speed of the crash(slow)..
and i thiink the bike just cartwheeled with my leg hung in it..
i was knocked out so last i remember was pushin the bike away
kinda chucklin' to myself about my own silliness for making the dumb mistake..totally expecting to just jump up before anyone noticed i had thrown it away LOL

my upper thigh is badly bruised where my knee brace (CTi) is at..
So i think the bike pivoted off my leg and broke at the weakest point ..
the tibia /fibia instead of the femur.

KWjams- tokyo T/.was cracking me up as i read the thread brought to my hosp room.

and doc says NO WEIGHT BEARING AT ALL>.no walking even ..
for 5 months..
im way bummed!
ive healed way faster than that from ACL deals...and even a broke back i rode in 3 months.

Thanks to all for the continued well wishes!
:)

Maybe I'll just put him up on my shoulders and we'll do a Master and Blaster thing like in MadMax

AJ,your crash and injuries sound so similar to mine it`a scarry. On Oct.21 i was trail riding with a group of friends, had just passed 2 guys that had problems on a hill.I was just cruising in 3rd gear when I clipped a small tree with the front break leaver, thats really the last thing i remember but apparently the front wheel locked throwing me over the bars,my right knee is bruised and cut, left leg must have gotten caught between the frame and handlebars twisting it resulting in a spiral break of the tibia and fibia. They had to realign and screw it back together.I`ve been riding and racing for over 30 years and this is by far the worst injury i`ve ever had.Its going to be a long winter as my doc says it will be between 4-6 months berore i can use this leg much,i`m too old to give up this much time, dont have much choice though.Try not to go stir crazy,it`s hard to fill this much idle time when you can`t get out of the house.:scream:

jly51- ouch!sounds far to similar!
Oct 21..Oct 31? more similarities...

Rich lmao!
I *WAS* headed to glamis for the MAD MAX scene on thanksgiving too..

the legs feeling ok ..no pain meds in several days ..
now if i could just sleep thru a coupla months of boredom.
I'll be back to work monday making AF's
I think in 1998 while i was on crutchies i built over 70 in my shop here at home-
without any "helpers" so this should be a snap now that i have a few SH employees to help just carring the the bigger parts.

( ever seen a guy carry a 60 pound CR500 engine on crutchies? lol im glad noone was around to snap pics, because i actually just hopped one legged.)
