Okie did he tell ya' about the pin on that double break? Titanium from knee to ankle through the bone! Yeesh!

I remember the video and thinkin' YEEOUCH! I'd be crying like a baby after that. AJ gets up, shakes his head, smiles for the camera and rides away.

(Somebody forgot to plug his pain receptor plug into the main board I think)

That's the one where they remove your foot so the surgical assistant can drive the rod up from the bottom with a BFH. I've seen video of some of those ortho "procedures", and they can be gruesome. I hope he scans in the X-Rays for us.

AJ's version of the crash

Doing a photo/bike test for Dirtrider mag there was a small -40ft- double. AJ said if you did it the way it is designed you double (more like 2 whoops) then go into a chicane and down a straight. AJ figured he could overjump it thus skipping the chicane and land in the straight. Did it several times no problem then on the fatefull one he knew he was going down but "was laughing to himself "before he hit the ground because he figured it would look good but cause no damage:). He figured it was going to be like hundreds of other times down since he thought he was clear of the bike. He wasn't real sure if he was tangled into the tank/bars before going down or if the bike kicked back and got him while he was on the ground. He really believes he was uninjured when he hit the ground.
He seemed to be pretty up and actually if I didn't know better would have sounded like nothing had happened to him- one tough guy, I'd be whining my head off:( . He really appreciates all the members concern and acted like 'aweshucks people really do like me?'
Keep up the good thoughts for him and hopefully soon we will get an address to send cards

Hey AJ, I'm really sorry to hear about your bum luck. At least it was done on a bike and not doing something stupid;) . I hope that your recovery is swift and painless(relatively speaking of course).

Just got back home. When I left AJ he was feeling much better.
He now has a rod in his Tibia that he can elect to have removed eventually but not for at least a year. He is looking at 16-20 weeks of recovery.

I didn't see AJ go down at the track but knew there was some sort of pile up in one of the corners. It took me some time to realise I hadn't seen AJ come around in a while. My first thought was "maybe he's over in the corner helping that poor guy that crashed". Ken Faught came runing up to me and told me AJ broke his leg! I dropped my water and just started running. I hit the track and hauled ass out there. When I got to him they were trying to remove his boot. I grabbed on to his hands and started talking to him. I felt so bad, he was in so much pain and when they got his boot off, it wasn't pretty. You could tell it didn't look right. :( Thumbs and I followed the ambulance and after they gave him the once over in the trama room they took him into the ER and allowed one person in. I told them I was his friend, but I guess one woman thought I was his wife. I wondered why the OR nurse said "okay, now is your last chance for hugs and kisses" before she wheeled him into surgery. A doped up AJ exclaimed: "REALLY!" I told him he didn't have anough broken limbs for any "hugging and kissing" but I might doodle on him before he comes to in recovery. ;)
AJ was a real trooper despite the long waiting and the pain. It wasn't long before he was more himself and irritating the ICU nurse. :p They won't be putting a cast on until the swelling goes down. But he was up and catassin' through the hallway with his hot rod walker this afternoon. His cute lil nurse thinks he looks like Patrick Dempsey. I bought him a truck load of girly mags and a hot wheels coloring book, among other things, so he should be able to amuse himself during his stay in the hospital. :)
If they let him out tomorrow, TTRGuy will take him to go stay at case de' buster. I'll see him on Saturday so I'll make sure to print out this thread and pass on your well wishes to him.

Hey Crash

Glad to hear that Aj is doing ok. My first thought when Shiftless told me Aj was hurt, was this vision of Aj standing on one leg, arms up in the air and screaming " I'm ok" and then trying to pick up his bike. Nothing keeps Aj down long, but I hope he LISTENS to the Dr and doesnt push it like someone else I know (OT). Glad you were there Speedy! Give him a hug for me when you see him Saturday and let him know that he may be missing my bday, but we can party when he gets home!!! :p Hot Damn is the perfect pain killer!!!

Hang in there bud, cant wait for you to come home!!

Will do Crispy. :)
AJ has been cleared as far as his lungs and blood oxygen goes but TTRGuy said they still want to keep him a couple more days because of his leg. I doubt they will be able to do it though. AJ is rearin' to get out of there. He was already arguing with the ICU nurse because he wanted to go home! ;) Let's just say this lady was very 'stern' with AJ. I asked him, "what did you do to her!" He says, "uhhh, we didn't exactly get off on the right foot." :o

ugh - the bad jokes are already starting. Now I know AJ will be fine as it's only a 'minor' injury and people are already crackin' jokes at his expense:)

This just in...

AJ was spotted and repremanded for trying to hijack a wheelchair and make a break for outside! He was caught red handed and sent back to his room. :(
TTRGuy is going to try and smuggle him out later so he can make a few phone calls on his cell (cell phones are not allowed to be on in the hospital).
Maybe if he becomes too much ofa PITA, they'll release him early. :p

I don't know if speed bumps would be a good idea or a bad idea in AJ's case!
The only air he's getting any time soon is the air that's blowin' in the backside of his new hospital designer wear! :p

I was so fortunate to catch a "moon" shot of his thousand year old roommate! I think I'm scarred for life. :scream:

I just spoke to AJ, he said as soon as he finishes eating he is free to go. A presidential pardon perhaps? It was only about a 30 second call, I didnt want to hold him up from bailing out of the place :)
