Hey now, some of us "C" riders aren't sandbagging. I only did well in season points by showing up. My points at each race would have put me at the very bottom of "B". Maybe next season I'll be fast enough to sandbag. ;)

My definition of a sandbagger......someone that chooses to stay in a lower class and continually get high finishes when he could move to the next class up and finish in at least mid pack on a consistent basis

Ok - I'll bite on that... I rode C for several "seasons" - that is if you consider 1 to 3 events per year a "season" (I think I did 5 events one year - again not enough for series standings) ...and in that time frame I think I took home maybe 2 or 3 trophies at the most - so I didnt rob anyone of any glory either. My first real "season" where I did more than 70% of the events (2007) got me bumped. I have been at the FAR back of B since. I am quite sure that Salgeek's trophy collection is WAY bigger than mine. :nener:

Duckboy - dont worry, I will ride with you at the back of B next year (for the 2 or 3 events I will do that is). We can let all the phast guys duke it out up front.

Got Al to make one for the nationals too! Take a trip down south after snowmobile season and check out all the SETRA classes, you think we got a bunch of 'em.

1 week and 1 day away from my first enduro of the 2009 season.

Thanks for the diagnosis Doctor! Glad ya got it all figured out for me.

Please just point me to the "right" class, so I don't continue to offend anyone. As you already know (from someone calling me silly names), I'm a bad, bad boy because I stole those cool plastic trophies from them other guys! They're entitled to them, you know, because, well, they did pay an entry fee and they tried their best.

Of course, so did I.

Until the AMA or D14/D15 says I have a 100 advancement points I'm B for 2009. The only reason this would change is if a fellow D14/D15 rider personally approached me and said it's time to move up. Until then I'm going to enjoy a B Hi-point or two.

It would be odd that someone would ask another rider to move up to another class. It may happen, but I have never heard of it. Maybe todays races are different. Salgeek, if someone asked you to move up to a higher class and you claim you would, then you may want to consider moving up to the next class on your own.
Petitioning to a lower class should be banished from the AMA rule book.

I respectfully disagree. I know the AMA doesnt always do what should be done, but petitioning to a lower class should always be available. I'll give you an example. I have two buddies that at one time were "A" motocrossers. The got out of the sport for a number of years and when they came back to race they didnt have "A" class speed. The were consistently getting lapped in the "A" class and finishing last. The rule is in place for this type of situtation. They have talked about petitioning the AMA, but have not followed through with it. I think they should petition the AMA so that they can at least have someone to compete and race with on the track.

Best Wishes on your quest for multiple B-Hi Points

The BB class? Nickoline you'll have to educate me on how this would work?
Sandbaggers would be B or BB? Who decides? The guys getting beat by the "Sandbagger" in their class or the Sandbagger beating those guys in their class?
How are we going to get the clubs to pay for one more class?

The AMA petitioning rule is a good rule,if followed with dilegence.
1 case that comes to mind ,is an older enduro rider that accumulated enough points by racing almost 30 years, and one very good season in the mid 90's. He's a mid-pack B rider who raced long enough to accumulate enough points,(great for him, a true lifelong competitor of our sport).
Should he be A or B?
I granted the move back to B 3 or 4 years ago, not 1 point to A has occured since then, but his kids and Grand kids are all in the sport. Keeping him in A may have lost a whole family!

Carl,
Having seen the petitioning process flagrantly manipulated by rider and D11 I do not share your opinion.

As for your other comments, let me know if you ever plan on offering a riding clinic - I'll be sure and sign-up.

Carl, this is getting tedious. For whatever reason you continue to insinuate that I’m “sandbagging.” As far as I know, we don’t know each other. I tossed a little poke at ya, and your feelings got hurt. Sorry.

From your original post, you rode 20 years ago as an A rider, and you’re looking to get back into riding enduros. Of course, since I have a guilty conscience from being a sandbagger, I don’t want you sandbagging back into the Senior B class either! I ride for the trophies!

Seriously, the AMA has a pretty good system in place for advancing riders. You earn advancement points for finishing in the top 15% of the B Class. So, it seems to me, if you’re finishing well in the class, and going to the events, you’re gonna get the points and you will be promoted to A.

Now, the issue of moving back down is a separate issue. Your posts reopen an old wound (for some), where recently a rider allegedly moved down because he didn’t (couldn’t?) finish well in A, so he went back to B where he could “do better.” He went on to clean house in the B class. Of course, he earned the advancement points and was re-promoted to A (which seems to indicate the promotion system works).

Now, I attend the majority of the enduros in D14 and D16. For the past 5 or 6 years. True, I’ve been improving over that time. Please take the time to review how many times I’ve finished in the top 15%. If I was “sandbagging,” I’d be promoted to A by now! I don’t think there’s anybody in either District (in my class) that is working harder to EARN the advancement points to become an A rider – by going to lots of events, and riding as well as I can. I’ll be proud to earn that A card!

And, I know that when I get bumped to “A,” I’ll be lower than mid-pack in the class. Big Deal. I'll still have fun!

So, calm down. It’s all fun. Ride whatever class you want, I don’t care. If you’re going to the events, riding B Class, and kicking butt, you’ll get promoted. Simple as that.

As far as I'm concerned at this time there are no true sandbaggers in the D14 events. Only a couple of riders advanced this year. I hope to someday also and will be proud of that.
Magoo, you rode hard all year and earned your championships!
Are you A yet? Not yet but well on your way and I expect to call you next January to congratulate you on you A card.
Don and Freddy too.
There are several on the edge but no one that close as to earn in first few events.
Good luck this year to all of our riders may the competition be as tight as it always has been.

See ya all in Roselawn!

Perhaps Carl should know that said rider after being promoted to the A class for the second time.... WON his A class. NOTHING more needs to be said. This individual manipulated the system with the help of D11 and the AMA and he did so knowingly - of course that is my opinion. You better believe I'm bitter. :|

Tom - thanks for your words - they carry much weight not only because you are the enduro chair; but, because you are a stand up guy by all accounts.

TDunn - "As far as I'm concerned at this time there are no true sandbaggers in the D14 events"

Roselawn! 3 happy customers for both days.

I've always been nice to you both online and in person. Is it too much to ask that you return the favor?

Hi UpMagoo

You just spent a lot of your time explaining and explaining and explaining how you are not a sandbagger. You make great points and I wish you the best. However, when you told "ME" to calm down, I almost fell out of my chair I was giggling so hard

I dont know much about District 11, I assumed they were all the same. that being said, I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

As far as the other comments, I think you misinterpreted what I said. Lets just say I should have explained myself better. The point I was trying to make is this......I personally would not let a fellow competitor dictate or suggest that I move up to the next class. Unless you're dominating that class, the person suggesting you move up is most likely doing it for his best interest. Good luck!
