Nice Hybrid!

Hey Thill,

Nice job on that hybrid! It looks like it came from the factory! What model PC pipe is that on there? It doesn't look like you had to cut and reweld it as described in the hybrid sticky on kdxrider.net.

Is doing an 03 a lot harder than an 02? I've read there are some differences/difficulties but haven't found any specifics.

Do you find the hybrid to be a big increase in performance over your 05 KDX 220?

Sorry for all the questions....Thinking about doing a hybrid and trying to get as much info as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Destructo,

What brand are your neoprene upper fork guards and where did you get them? Also brand of plastic lower fork guards and where you got them?

BTW, nice looking bike!

Thanks, They are Sealsavers, I only paid like 28 bucks shipped straight from Sealsavers, also the fork guards are Maier I think, I bought them from RockyMountainATV/Motorcycle. Also the front fender from a 2007 KX 250 or 450 bolts up exactly perfect just rerivet the the cable bracket to the new fender.

Destructo,

Thanks for the info. I looked at the sealsavers site. Are those made for USD forks? The ones made for USD forks are the only ones that are long like yours.

Didn't have to do any cutting on the PC pipe, even the stock pipe will bolt right up, BUT you have to put a upper mount on the frame and i just relocated the lower one, ALOT of this has to do with how you mount your motor, alot of mocking up and double checking....The biggest difference to me is the weight of the machines, around 30 pounds less, all the weight seems to be lower...

Thanks for the kudos on my bike........your E series is lookin' good too.

The Fredette power ring was only $9.95 so I'm pretty sure I'm getting my moneys worth even if I'm only faster mentally..

I'm gonna try a 12 tooth soon instead of the 13 tooth stock countershaft sprocket just to see what it does for the low end.

Ride in pretty tight areas so losing a few MPH on the top-end ain't gonna kill me.

Got a buddy that just snagged a 1990 E-2 so it looks like between the three of us we have the first three E series covered....I like the old ones !

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention the yellow Garmin GPS I mounted over near the clutch lever.
Speed/max speed/average speed/trip/total distance/time/etc....

Made a pretty nice double nutted/quick release/backed rear fender tool bag too out of an ancient Motorola leather car-phone bag that had all of the contents gutted years ago.

I knew I would end up using it for something....

Sweet! I thing we have one of those Garmin's laying around somewhere, I'll have to try that.

I recently switched to 12/49 gearing. I don't think I could tell much difference because at the same time I switched to a trials tire which is much taller than the knobby I was running. I feel like the gearing is a little lower still, but I'm sure with the smaller rear tire it would have been a large difference.

julien_d..

I noticed the cool minimalist bike stand you are using under your E-1.

That is pretty slick looking.....do have any info or closer photos of how it is made??

It looks like it works perfectly without being too big or bulky.

Yeah, it wokrs very well and is easy to store since it's light and small. It basically looks like a couple high rise handlebars welded together. I'll take some pics of it for you this evening. The guy I got the bike from threw it in the mix along with a box of extras. You lay the upright section down on the floor, roll the bike over it, then step on the bar that's sticking up and it picks the bike right up. To take it down, just push the bike forward. No more heaving the bike up on a milk crate!

julien_d,
I would most definitely appreciate some pics of it with a little detail.

It looks like the perfect design and my buddy with the 1990 E-2 can weld like a maniac anyway.
He should be able to hook us up easily...THANKS !!
