I actually had to put our Arien's snow blower to work today. Our last few snows it really hasn't had to work hard. Today was it's first real test since we bought it last year. It's pretty amazing. I laugh at the neighbor with this little plastic thing that sounds like a weed wacker. He throws that thing across his yard at least once. I'm surprised it still works.

Lucky Phil got to watch me work since he's still stuck at home with his broken femur...

Didn't have too hard of a drive in to work. I live three miles from my store. Hardest part was my cul-de-sac. Snow was drifted up to the top of the bumper on my Explorer. Main roads were clear, but icy. I laughed at the three Jeeps stuck in that three miles. Those guys always think they are invincible.

We only got a light coating of ice and about 6 inches of snow. Just another normal day around here. I was a pain in the arse to move it with that crusty layer under the snow.....

-2f, does suk. That and Yellowstone is not helping, yet? The snow finally stopped just before dark. The clean up finally can start. Every time I went out, it seemed to drop 5 degrees or so, the soft snow was turning into ice snow! A questionable day to run plumbing service, we shall see. "what do mean 120 dollars an hour to clear my sidewalk. or you walk?". Too cold.

Not yet, I did spend the past 5 hours trying to thaw the underground (9" of so LOL) pipe from my well pump to the pressure tanks. No water last night and Mrs. Patman had to go to the gym to get ready for work this morning. Got enough water to bypass the ice to charge the pressure tanks so that's good, the exterior hose bibs are froze up so that's bad. Once I warm up a bit I'm going to go hit them with the heat gun and see if the slightly warmer temps this afternoon and the heat soaked earth will finish thawing the main line. If so I'm turning on the darn sprinklers and letting them run all night so the well keeps cycling fresh (warm) ground water.

It's Twue. It's Twue!! Getting little better now. Got truck out of downtown yesterday afternoon. Made it to work for half day today, but just parked in the middle of the street. I want to gripe about all the semi's stuck and blocking highways, but me and the rest of the free world want those products in the vans. Up to a balmy 20 right now and I went up to Braums to get some milk (milk-snob family--they'll never know I poured a gallon of Viva into a Braum's container in the fridge now) wearing just a sweatshirt, jeans and my boots. What really gripes me is all the idiot drivers in small little cars about 5 inches off the ground that are getting stuck and blocking everyone else.

I hate to waste it, let that sucker drip into a safe sink/tub. The cheesiest method to prevent pipe freeze, and works! You ever repipe your house, insist on Viega bronze fittings and pipe, secured with stainless crimp rings. The only system that can carry a lifetime warranty. It will freeze and not break. Scrap keeps going up, I may rip my copper out. Too much fluoride, lead and friction on the water. And it pops like a pimple when in a freeze thaw situation. I repiped my house in copper, 2 months later got introduced to this system and company, it figures. And its use in heating is even better! http://www.viega.com/

oh they were dripping but the problem is my two 120 gallon pressure tanks didn't cycle the pump enough to keep the line from the pump freezing. Down here ripping the copper out involves chiseling it out of the slab :) The next house will have all sorts of lessons learned improvements.

I thought about going to city hall but decidede to stay at home another day. Maybe I'll be able to find a place to mark near 2nd and Cincinatti. I haven't ventured past the front gate yet but I'll make it out tomorrow sometime.

Pat, 50 some degree concrete is a torture! 90+ concrete is a whole world better on my bones. Expensive, but worth every penny, boiler set ups for ALL your heat/hot water needs. Those that invest around here, never shovel or salt again. The stand alone generators that run off propane/natural gas are really neat too!

Yup a propane powered stand by gen set is one of the items on the list. The in floor grid was under consideration, especially if I can figure out a good way to use geothermal to maintain the temp because it should make cooling the place easier too.

Make sure you go with the automatic transfer switch too! It's pricey but it does all the work for you. Power goes out in the middle of the night and you never miss a beat.

I wish I had a heated driveway.. 2 inches of ice on it.. Could be a while before it's clear.
Welcome to my world! My driveway, all the roads in my neighborhood and half of the lot at work are under a few inches of ice/packed snow........you have to chisel it into pieces to get it up. :fft:
