Put me down as a "Lingering Maybe."

I just need to see what the weather will be like and see if I can get the time off. Most likely I'd come down early on Monday and leave Tuesday afternoon (30th-31st).

I do believe you mean "closing". ;)

I actually listened to a person at a TRT meeting tell me how if the barrens were closed for 1 year, plants would start to grow there again.

I then pointed to one of the photos of a barren region that was taken in the twenties & asked her if that "damage" was caused by OHV's. She naturaly missed the point.

There are alkalites in the soil that kill any kind of plant life, heck manzanita won't grow in most of those areas. These are the same alkalites that etch the aluminum on our bikes.

FJ,

According the letter that the BRC has prewritten it states opening new barren areas. I guess the areas that the BLM want to open are not good areas to ride in.

It may be a way for the BLM to get around some directive?

BLM are opening some previously closed barrens and creating "play areas" in places the riders couldn't care less about. See the Salinas Ramblers web site.

Kind of disapointing to see those closures. When we were cruising R105 or R108? south-east, we saw closed to atv/mc signs on both sides of road. Looked like hills and trails were recently used also with whoops etc. Need to battle this out in courtrooms like Georgetown I guess.

What time will most be arriving on Mon?
Since this will be my 1st time meeting and riding with ya'll
what types of trucks, trailer, motorhomes should I be looking for at the 1st campground?
I'll be driving a light blue Toyota truck w/ WR426 in the back and I will have my lights on for this trip. I usally just run a YZ rear fender and # plate.

Thanks Steve

Does anyone have an idea as to what time your first ride of the day usually is. I'll be coming down early Tuesday (31st) morning and leaving that afternoon. I'd like to get there early enough to gear up and make the first ride of the day. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

WRSteve,

Look for a bunch of Toyota Tundra's. I have a grey Tundra pulling a 5x10 enclosed trailer. Karna & Justin have a silver 4 door Dodge pickup pullling a tent trailer, Buddy and Mini have a white 4 door Chebi pulling a 6 x12 enclosed trailer. Natalie has a black Chebi, Fremontguy has a green Z71 Chevy.

I should be there by 9:30am on Monday.

Kawidude,
We are all veterans of riding with MR.WR. So we are riding by 7:00am rain or shine. But since Rick will not be there expect 9:00 departure unless Fremontguy and Buddy decide to uphold the tradition of 7:00. I personally will start riding when I can get my Honda piglet started (9:00am). :aj:

I'll be coming in that morning so I'll plan on making it there for a 9am ride. If everyone else ditches you at 7am, I'll ride with you at 9!

I'll be driving a beige 4Runner with trailer and an XR400 dressed up in its new black CR plastic.

Jonala, when are you going to become "enlightened" and buy something with a button?
I'm keen, therefore Mick will be keen for a 7am ride. Can't wait. :yeehaw:

We drive a White Toyota Tundra with a bulls horn sticker on the back, that should be pretty easy to pick out.

Why? I've got starting the piglet down to 20 kicks in the morning, and 10 everytime I shut if off. PLUS I made a tow harness so that BUZZ can pulll me so that I can bump start it. :thumb:

D36,
I plan on being there Mon-Tues. Weather permitting.

Hey John, if you want we can try the starting procedure I use with my XR 400. When stone cold, it starts with no more than two kicks and often times with a single kick. If it works for the 400 it should work with the 250 right? (Hmmm...it sounds too easy. I'm sure it will never work).

I don't know about imbibing, but I do take a Wild fowl sleeping tonic. I also use a eastern european alixar that keeps me warm at night. I plan on bringing at least one for this trip. It's gonna be cooooolldddddd at night. :p

OK...

We will TRY and get there as early as we can on 12/30...let's aim for 9:30 but probably be closer to 10:00 depending on how organized we can get next weekend. That means we will have to leave our house by 6:30-7:00 and be hopeful that Starbucks isn't too busy

We will hopefully get in 2 (or more?) loops on 12/30 and 12/31 and be up for 1 LONG loop on 1/1 (depending on how hungover we are and how tired we are from the previous days of riding). We are aiming at getting home late afternoon on 1/1.

We will be in the Silver Dodge with Tent trailer attached and a '99 KTM 250 (designed in stealth) and a '00 KDX 200 that looks like it has been through the ringer. We have some yellow "MOOSE" ribbon that we were given at the Training Wheels so if we get there before others then we will rope off a section at Oak Flat Campground.

What time are others planning on arriving?? We recieved a bunch of CCMA maps in the mail so we have plenty to share and we just bought new batteries for the Motorola Walkie Talkies. Natalie and I went out to lunch today and have started the meal planning...anyone up for a 12/31 potluck?

Oh, and bring lots of firewood! It should come in handy!

Karna

I won't be able to make the New Year's ride, but Angry Jim and I did 65 miles at Clear Creek on 12/23. It was my first time there, and Jim was an excellent guide.

Clear Creek has a wide variety of trails and soil conditions, so there is something for everybody. We found lots of mud, but other areas had drained well.

Higher elevation trails were under snow. We were the first bikes to make it through a few sections, but we got thwarted by snow several times. Overall, conditions were excellent, even though some good trails were not rideable. Not much snow melted yesterday as it was chilly all day.

There are some nasty trails there, so be careful and have fun.

Mick has got a bunch of palettes at work that he's going to break down and we'll bring with us. Karna count us in on a pot luck. Just let me know what you want me to bring. This should be fun!!
