Gotta agree with zio on this one. Did I really say that??? :scream: :)

My biggest gripe is, during rush hour traffic, people that take the offramp and get right back on only to gain a couple places in traffic. This really screws traffic up behind them as they are trying to merge back into traffic. I guess they really don't care since they must be 'SPECIAL'. :ugg:

I noticed now that a lot of people move over, (myself included), to the shoulder so these inconsiderate jerks get stuck out on the shoulder and can't get back into traffic. Ain't that too bad. :moon:

Hey, my dog is just like a person!

I have two words for people who don’t know how to merge “ZIPPER EFFECT!” I hate it when there’s a long line of cars merging and 3 or 4 (or more) will try to squish in and cut everyone off. Nobody wants to wait their turn.

If you pull up to a stoplight, you’re not turning right and there’s no one in the left lane then out of courtesy, get into the left lane so that other’s can turn right on the red. It really irks me when I have to pull up behind someone blocking the right hand lane so I can’t turn when they could be sitting in the left lane.

Merging onto the freeway definitely seems to be a challenge for some. Ummm, hello, the onramp isn’t some scenic byway. Get your ass up to speed and on to the freeway so we can all safely merge with the flow of traffic.

Turn signals are there for a reason people. They are there to indicate your intent to make a turn as to warn others. Turning them on WHILE you are actually in the process of making your turn does no one any good! :silly:

I could go on forever but you all did a pretty good job of covering most of the main peeves.

By the way, I am guilty of being the speedster that comes up pretty fast in your rearview mirror but some people need a little wake up call to move over. Why can’t people get a handle on the fact that the left lanes are passing lanes, not travel at a snails pace lanes? And brake checking is NOT cool. It never ceases to amaze me that those people are willing to intentionally cause an accident just to make a point? Brake checkers are no better than tailgaters in my opinion. Flashing your lights to signal to someone to move over is perfectly acceptable to me. Some people just seem to zone out at the wheel and are oblivious as to what’s going on around them.

One thing if find interesting though is how different driving habits are regional. They can even differ within the same state. I always know when I’ve entered into the San Diego county when I’m traveling at about 95 MPH and It’s as if I’m sitting still!

Adjusting to driving in St. Louis took some time and I still get caught of guard by people out here who just loooove their brakes!

I've always held the belief that women who buy cars should save themselves some money by deleting the turn signals and the rear view mirrors. They don't use 'em anyway. :p

Wow, pred, I'm glad you are a couple of states away, so I can avoid collatral damage! I gotta agree with OAS about NM drivers, I have lived a lot of places but the driving here is the worst I've seen. And don't get me started about older drivers, in my town I get everything done before 11 AM cause that's when the old people come out. :p I just spent a couple of weeks driving on the wrong side of the road on the narrowest roads you can imagine (Ireland and the UK) and I felt safer than I do driving around town, I think it is because the Irish and British treat driving as their main proity while theyare in the car, and they PAY ATTENTION.

I hate it when you come up on someone going slow in the left hand lane & they move over but then feel the need to speed up and race you. So by the time your done passing them you go from 70 to 100 just so you can get by them. But once you're by them they go back to driving slow. Some people just HATE to be passed.

Good god, man, if we didn't have rear view mirrors, how would we put our makeup on in the morning??!!

I see a lot of men not using their turn signals around here. Of course, we always assume that it's because they are local, and everyone already knows where they are going! :silly:

As a stupid anecdote, I had jury duty for a DUI case a few years ago. There was discussion about the use of turn signals, and one of the other women jurors actually said, "Oh, I thought you didn't have to use turn signals if nobody else was around!" Duuuhhhhh....
I dunno about the rest of you, but I'm too busy watching traffic to decide whether or not anybody is around to see my turn signal! It's an automatic reflex, anymore.

Some people can't stand to be behind anyone...and even if the car starts to go faster they feel they have to reach whatever speed it takes to get passed them. And for what good reason would one want to do this....aspirations of LaMans? Sound familiar, babe?
Let me ask you this...if the guy speeds up, why do you still feel the need to pass?
Also, some are in the left lane becasue they happen to know they are comming up on a heavily used merge lane and are only using their gourds and being sensible. Predicitive safety, if you will. Some can't grasp that concept, I know.

Anyone who tailgates closer than a car length per 10mph at any time in any situation is absolutely off in their thinking. Also, they probably haven't been in a good one yet either.
I would go into seat belts, but that may come up a lap or two later. :)

Jaybird - some good points but most places I have been (in medium to heavy traffic) if you leave even 20 feet between you and the car in front of you, some jerk just weaves in front of you and there goes your safety barrier yet again. Try leaving 6 car lengths of space (at 60 mph) near any city I've been around and all you get is frustration. Its impossible.

Eratic drivers make me nuts, too. For example, driving behind somebody on a two-lane 55mph highway. One minute they're ripping along at 60, next thing you know they're crusing at 45. Then its back to 55, then 50, then 65, 45, etc., etc. I don't care if they do happen to be going fast when I have the opportunity to pass them, I'm going to do it, just so I can stay at one speed!

Because when they're driving 55 in a 65 it's annoying! Even when they try to race & I get back behind them they slow down to 55 again!! They just don't want someone passing them (and no there isn't a merge lane coming up).

SURE THEY DO!! :) They use the mirror to put on their make-up while driving at 65 mph, half way in your lane. The blinkers? They use those to confuse you... turning left? Ok, signal right. ;)

Yesterday, I had one of "those people" speed up when I tried to pass them, and now that I think about it, they looked a lot like Jaybird...

Here's one to try next time your on the road Jay KEEP RIGHT PASS LEFT. Don't use your weak merging skills as an excuse for farting around in the left lane. If I catch up to someone there is a reason, I'm going faster. I will pass that person I don't care how fast I gotta go to get them. We see it all of the time the person moves over to the lane they belong and pick up 20mph. You look in your rear view a minute later and their gone.

That is such crap. (Too bad it's true ;) )

Sometimes I forget to turn on my blinker before I make a turn, but I remember to turn on my blinker when I'm in the middle of it, okay?

if you want to avoid stress its very simple set the cruise at 55 or whatever the limit is and just hang out in the right lane. let everyone else worry about having to pass you. trust me it works youre not hunched over the wheel looking for a spot to make the pass. any body jumps infront of you no worry they wont be there long. see traffic up ahead just let off the gas and usually by the time you get to it it either clears out or you can think of your options<pullin over and takin a nap on the hood, stoppin for a cup of coffee whatever>. no panic slamming on the brakes

life is so amusing when you just stop and take a moment to watch all of the people in such a rush to their heart attacks or strokes.

Jimics that may be good in light to no traffic, where everyone is spread out, but in heavy traffic that is the worst thing you could do. If you do this in medium to heavy traffic YOU are the one causing much of the traffic. People will be stuck in the right lane behind you and can't merge left. That packs the right lane in tight. Then when an on ramp comes around you know sooner or later some fool in the right lane is going to make a idiotic attempt to get over, making everyone in the middle lane slow down, and so forth and so on you have yourself a bottleneck and nearly dead stopped traffic behind you just cause you decided you can't go with the flow. 10 mph makes a big difference at highway speeds, trucks and slower cars can't speed up fast enough to blend properly.

Look, the bottom line is, some of you think you are good drivers...and are far from it.
If you tailgate, speed (excessively), bob and weave, or any other Brickyard move...you WILL eventually be in an accident.
Kids learn with experience, well some do.
Folks, life is short and you are not the only ones on the highway, trust me my merging skills are top notch. That isn't the point here...the point to me is that some think they are indestructable, as well as a cousin to Mario Andretti. My personal belief is that folks who drive with idotic moves are just showing their own personalities.
What does tailgating gain you? NOTHING!
What does weaving through heavy traffic gain you? A second or two earlier arrival? (Sheesh)
Just who do y'all think you are?
I think I'll go out now and start some road rage.
motometal, that WAS me...didn't you recognise me when I gave you the number one sign? :)

Oh yes, I wanted to add....
When you are on an interstate, and you come upon a driver in the passing lane that is going nowhere...why do some of you think you have to tailgate, flash lights, etc??? Do you have a vision problem? Can you not see that the driver in front of you also has a driver in front of them, and so on...?
Perhaps the guy that you are flashing lights on, is trying to also pass. I know, you are going a bit faster so we should pull over to the right and let you by, so you can be one more carlength ahead.... Sheesh, people get with the program!

I'm not one of the drivers that y'all envision...but I will take wagers on who can drive and who can't...just find us a nice dirt track and I'll take on all commers. You'll think merging skills then! :)

Here's a story for you. I'm a new driver, I've had my permit for about 4 months, and I drive a good deal. Yesterday I needed to make a run to the local shop to pick up some sprockets. One road you take to get there is this little one lane each way deal. So doing 60 down this road, the minivan going the other direction in front of me blows a tire. Somehow I managed to keep it on the road, and nothing flew off of his car (we were in a covertible). That kinda frusturated me

Jmics - I have driven in and around almost every major city in this country. Setting the cruise control in heavy traffic is borderline stupid. And yes there will ALWAYS be someone right in front of you if you leave enough space for them to squeeze in. There are so many idiots that don't anticipate which lane to be in for their exit, change speeds, just hafta pass 1 more car before merging etc. My point is that tailgating is unavoidable in heavy traffic - you leave too much space and some A-hole is going to fly in front of you and then SLAM the brakes to avoid hitting the next guy. IMHO its safer to keep that space as large as possible WITHOUT leaving room for some dipwad to slip in. I'll take a nice steady pace 15 ft. behind someone anyday over having IDIOTS constantly invading my buffer zone and then hitting the brakes.

Now in my theory in heavy traffic everyone else should slow down :aj: traffic is caused by the a greater amount of cars on the road. although your theory has some merit on the highway itself you will still have a bottle neck at all the interchanges off ramps and secondary roads causing delays. The amount of times somebody flipped me off the bird because I was too slow for them on the highway as they zoom on past an easy 30mph faster only to see me smile and wave to them at the toll booth, off ramp, whatever supports my theory extremely well. Admit it you know exactly what I am talking about :D . Traffic studies are a very interesting thing. When my father was working designing bridges he learned quite a bit of traffic studies from talking to D.O.T. engineers. He has learned and told me that a two lane highway cannot flow twice the amount of traffic as 1 lane only about 1.5times and the percentage gets lower each time you add a lane ie. 3 lanes > 1.9 and so forth. You are correct that the rates of speed of the vehicles causes problems but doesnt matter much if it is 1 5 10 or 20 mph difference but should I feel guilty because I am just about the only one out there doing the speed limit  You are right in that I am part of the problem but only because I am just another vehicle on the road. So that makes everybody else who has a car and chooses to drive it a part of the problem also. I have no problem sharing the road but I still have the right to be on it especially since I am one of the few that actually obeys the speed limit :p . Try to make me feel that I shouldnt be on the road because you are in a rush , well unless you have a flashing light on your roof or a pregnant lady in the back seat ready to give birth, forget it you should a just left earlier. :moon:

And correct me if I am wrong but I thought you are supposed to slow down in adverse conditions, weather, construction , and yes even heavy traffic.

It has been my expereience that the majority of drivers (used in lieu of a more vulgar term) are just hitting that pedal thingy on the floor and the vehicle moves towards their destination. Unlike myself I attemp to drive in the most efficient manner to get from point A to B within a reasonable amount of time. It is my opinion that most people don't have the analytical ability to operate a automobile in a couteous manner or realize the seriousness of what they are doing. Lastly I'd rather be riding that putting behind you slow A$& trying to get where I'm going! :aj: move it over
