I too hate those little speeders who come flying up behind you at 80mph just to tail gate so you'll get over  What I like to do is give them some compression love :D Similar to motometals brake check, yet I think mine is more inconspicuous(sp) and the brake lights tend to give you away.

Then when they finally get around me, I give them a big old smirk and it just peeves them off :p

Dang Elk, I thought I would brring a couple from here, drop'em off, then go home. It's getting a little crowded around here, just last week we had 5 cars backed up at one of our traffic lights, (we have three now you know) hell of a jamb :)

Elk, I agree about people sitting too close to the wheel. In all honesty, I think it will kill them on impact. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I'm scared when I see little ol' ladies with their chest on the wheel, because if that thing goes off, it'll pop their head off like a dandelion. Anyone else think the same?

Hey, guys it's not just little old ladies that sit close to the wheel!

You think we do it on purpose? Gotta reach the darn gas and brake pedals, ya know! Believe me, I'm well aware of all the horror stories that came out a couple years ago regarding short women and kids in the front seat, and the increased risk for injury when air bags go off.

I'll take my chances with the airbag, in favor of getting to the brake pedal when needed!

:):) I've seen those air bags go off and what it does to an elderly persons skin. It's not good, the air bag material is real rough and tears their skin.:( I guess it's better than going through the window.
We need MORE traffic lights here, people just don't get the stop sign thing!:)

You folks forgot the wankers who slip in to the merge part of the on ramp to pass a couple of cars and THEN you expect me to let you back in!

And car pool lanes need at least 2 people, HELLO!! that's you AND SOMEONE ELSE.

"Stinkbugs" huh? No matter what they're called, I love to mess with them. If I see somebody coming up behind me, whipping back an forth in traffic, I'll either slow down or speed up just a touch as to close the gap between myself and another vehicle. This way, Mr. Formula One wannabe is stuck, and watching them frantically switch lanes behind me is always good for a grin on my face. :aj:

Just as bad are people who don't merge in when you give them a chance (typically during rush hour, and they're thinking they can get in about 10 cars ahead so they keep going up the shoulder). I give 'em one chance, that's it. Then, I don't care if they're gonna pull a Toonces off the cliff, they ain't gettin' in. Greedy jerks.

Or, people who pass on the right. Especially in traffic, when the left lane is full, and there's a slow truck 1/4 mile ahead in the right lane. Idiots. I don't know where they think they're going.

Or people who think that getting onto the freeway from the onramp gives them some right of way, & expect YOU to slow down or speed up for them. Half the time they don't even look over their shoulder.

Or, people who pull into the left lane to pass a truck going 55, they're going 60, and don't adjust their speed to accomodate you coming up on their a$$ at 70.

And what's with truckers, who pass another truck who's going 55, but they're only going 56? And they hold up about a dozen cars for a few miles in the process? It can't get them there that much quicker, and can't be helping their mileage any. Besides, the line of trucks (on CA HWY 99, for example), is hundreds of miles long. They pass one or two trucks, and then get back in line.

All idiots, morons and loons.

I saw some big trucks today on the interstate pushing 80-85 in a 65 zone. Doesn't it take longer for them to stop, particularly when fully loaded? Something's wrong when the speed limit is the same for 18 wheelers and street bikes. We are comparing something powered by a TRACTOR to something capable of quick braking and excellent high speed manuverability.

Jimics, while I almost always agree with your posts, I am not buying into your "time management" theory. There aren't alot of things you can accomplish while driving (other than talking on the cel phone, which I guess is debatably "not ok"). Regardless of how we all manage our time (other than driving time), wouldn't we all rather have MORE time? After all, we are only on this earth for a finite nimber of hours.

I think you would have to agree that depending on the vehicle and driving conditions, there are many times when you could travel at a rate significantly faster than the speed limit while still maintaining a reasonable level of safety. I guess to me driving feels like sort of a waste of time...just waiting to get where I am going.

Actually, considering you have "X" chances of getting in an accident for every minute you are on the road, isn't it logical that the slower you drive (thus, the more minutes you spend on the road), the MORE chance you will get in an accident?

food for thought...

1. In heavy traffic on the interstate, slowing down before the ramp...the ramp's purpose is to give you room to slow down!
Some places in Tulsa you had better slow down before the ramp or you won't be able to stop at the stop light just off the ramp. Many freeway ramps were built in the 70's and 80's when the speed limit was 55 and were not designed to be exited upon at 70mph.

Swift, don't know about Tulsa but where I grew up in the 70's the speed limit WAS 70. It wasn't until the early-mid 80's when they dropped it back to 55!
If I remember right the feds threatened to take away federal funding from any state that didn't change the speed limit to 55.

Nixon changed the speed limit in 73. Oklahoma was threatened by the DOT to ENFORCE the 55 mph speed limit sometime in the early eighties.

ahh yes, my pet peeves about those "others" on the road. What really erks me is the idiot who goes 45 in a 55 where you can't pass them (either because of that evil solid yellow line or because of that POS car you drive) then when the speed limit changes to 25.... They are still doing 45

And then there are the people who are "passing" someone on the interstate at a whopping .003546-mph faster than the other car (which by the way is going SLOWER than the speed limit). 20 miles, 356 high beam flashes and some seriously unhealthy stress later they get their slow asses out of the left lane. WTF is up with that? If you're going to pass do it quick...ya know cruise control is ADJUSTABLE. Either car could adjust their speed, p-l-e-a-s-e!!!! :whiner:

What about the yuppie who is too dense, or just probably too stupid, to realize that they cutting you off was not my fault. Just because that $50,000 gas scuzzler is bigger than my little motorcycle doesn't mean I still won't open a can of ass whoop on your sorry face.

All those bad drivers who you call idiots are probably calling YOU an idiot for doing whatever you did because of what they did. To them YOU’RE the idiot and they are the good driver. Just like Einstein :) said, "it's all relative."

Dewd, I suggest you relax.
If you flash your high beams at me, we are going to road dance. :)
Quite rude and uncalled for, don't you think....or should we all stay off of your road?

Dance Jaybird, but I never took dance lessons. :)

When you are behind them for 10 minutes and they are STILL along side the other car what do you suggest??? It's not a motocross race...the whole ram them off the road thing doesn't fly to well with the cops. Just step on the gas a tad bit and get past the car, that's all I ask. Yea it probably is rude to flash the lights...but they should be considerate enough not to hold up traffic for so very long. Don't make it your job to police the roads and enforce the speed limit. Flowing with traffic is far safer than holding it up because "that's the speed limit"

lost in the deserts of NM
And then there's New Mexico....................

Passing another car doing .00003 m.p.h. fasterthan the passe???
These guys DONT pass here.
They will get beside you in the left lane and then match your speed.
ANY speed........ :|
And they will speed up or slow down just to keep BOTH lanes blocked off to other drivers who want to get past. Think i'm exagerating???
Ive been that guy in the RH lane many times! Ive actually slowed and turned off the road so the poor drivers triing to get past can do it.
And the guy in the LH lane looked ticked off cause i pulled off!!!!
Im not kidding.
Like hogging lanes is their job or something.
YEEESH!!

The other biggie in the northern NM & Colorado area is TAILGATING.
Never seen anything like it over here. I mean these people get within INCHES, I N C H E S of your back bumper at a stop light.
It's been in the papers, on the KOB t.v. news and even on the "Ken Hamblin" radio show. Discussing the problem of tailgating in this wild wild west... :(
I mean COME ON, this is a big state.
Theres lots of room. Give a carlenght at the light.
If you cant see the car in front of you until your millimeters away from it, then get the #@%% off of the road!!!!!!!!!!
One of these days im gonna throw it in reverse and.............. :p

I'll hop on this thread now being as this has happened to me twice in the past week. Say you're cruising along a 4 lane highway with plenty of traffic travelling both directions. A piddly little side road enters from the right. Two sedans sitting at the stop sign to your right looking awful antsy about darting across your half to get to the opposing lanes, being that there is heavy traffic there are only short breaks as to where a car may safely cross your lane and proceed into traffic on the other half. Well the break in traffic was just ahead of me, I'm doing the ohio speedlimit and sedan one pulls to the median and without a break in the other side sits in the median awaiting its turn, no problem...until sedan two pulls out and has nowhere to go being as only one car can sit in the median. So sedan two is 200 yards ahead of me broadside as I'm cruising right about 55 or 60, I'm in the fast lane traffic is in the slow lane so I lay on the binders and get it hauled down just in time to miss their rear door. Why couldn't sedan two just waited for the next break in traffic, sometimes I just can't figure it out..

heh that reminds me of a story little blue haired old lady was doing the 40 mph in the left lane gig and Richard Petty was stuck behind her somewheres in North Carolina. Well after I guess drafting for too long he decides to give her one of them little nascar love taps. I rememebr readin that it happened but never reading about what was the outcome.

hmmmm the king of nascar doing a little aggrasive driving in the capitol of nascar I wonder howlong it took to get swept under the door?

This thread reminded me of the Petty story too. He was running for senator or congressman at the time, and the repercussions of his 'love tap' ultimately caused him to bow out of his bid for office.

If memory serves, the little old lady was actually a guy like Jmics. :)
